I am learning (trying to) Apache by the Shadows. I have an article from Guitar Techniques with the backing track and tabs. In the part of the article discussing tone, it states, "If you don't have access to a digital copy of Hank's echoes, use a medium tempo delay with several quick repeated notes."

What could this article be referring to by "digital copy of Hank's echoes" meaning, of course, Hank Marvin? Is there a source somewhere for such presets?

Failing a preset, from all the delay pedals available to me, from "Mono Delay" to "Stereo Tape Delay" and all the settings for each how would I get "medium tempo delay with several quick repeated notes"? :?

Thanks

I don't know how to get that specific echo from a Mustang amp built-in delay, but here's a clue:

No, I still don't know how to tune that in to my Mustang floor. But that gives me an idea of what to strive for. From the man himself. That's a lot better than just the written description I had from GT.

Thanks a lot, strings.

Anytime! My best guess would be that it's a multi-tap delay. But I'm not very good at dialing that in.

Thanks again. I will try the multi-tap. I have no idea what that means but it's a starting point.

And I meant to tell you I subscribed to your YT channel. Love the "Fender Mustang III Demo, Slow Blues". Great tone.

Just for reference, I suspect the "digital copy" refers to a programme called "echoes from the past". If I recall, some company build a bunch of delay presets designed specifically to replicate Hank's sounds. They launched versions for a few different processors (there was definitely an Alesis and Zoom version). This was a good few years back though so it depends how old your article is whether that's what they're talking about.

It'll be hard to get it exactly right with the preset options on the Mustang, although you'll get close enough.

Multi tap delay just really means uneven repeats. So if a "1" is a delayed note and a "0" is a missed beat, a regular delay will give you "1 1 1 1", but a multi tap could give you "1 0 1 1" or "1 1 0 1" and so forth. If that makes sense!

yes that's a good way to explain it. I think it might be possible to get something close to Hank's with the multitap

@mantonanjin

This may be a couple of years too late, but if it's of use, here goes.............

That 'digital copy- of Hank's effects, as I have it, is obtained by payment for a particular effects pedal, i.e. Zoom G5, or Zoom G9.2tt, or the Yamaha Magicstomp, from Charlie Hall at http://www.hallsecho.com
