Hi,
this are some pictures of a Fender Mustang III v2 Combo.
I could not find any pictures from inside, so i decided to post some.
Hope thats interesting for some of you.

BTW:
Anyone tried to connect a speaker to R+ and R-?
Mustang III - V seems to be the same board.
Also stereo is available over headphone, so this might not be a software restriction ;)

I suspect you're right in stereo not being a software/hardware limitation. I have a Mustang IV v.2 and the other guitarist has a III v.2. As best I can tell there's not much difference there other than the wattage and cabinet. I personally don't use the stereo effects since I only use this for playing live and there's not much point of stereo in a live environment.

I have to beg to differ with this. Stereo effects going through a stereo amp sound an awful lot fuller no matter what situation it's used in. No you may not get the super wide stereo spread with both L/R speakers being in the same cab but there is definitely a big difference in sound. To me, the effect that benefits most when used in stereo is the chorus effect. Mono chorus simply pales by comparison.

I guess that depends on your perspective. If you're simply playing it in a room through an amp, then you'll hear the difference. But I'm talking about playing a gig where it's going through a PA in a large hall or outside events where I normally play.

Rarely if ever does anyone run a PA with channel separation in a professional situation. If you did the stereo separation and effect wouldn't work for 2/3 of the audience..only for the 1/3 that's optimally in the center. For the other 2/3 at best it would sound like some weird arrangement of a chorus and echo as one side would be significantly lower than the other. At worst it will sound like a normal mono chorus for most of the audience. Of course that's in an environment such as an outside venue. Inside the reflections would negate the effect for anyone past the first few rows. Given all of that it's hard to justify the extra setup and management necessary at the board for the extra channel space and subgrouping when it won't make any real difference to the audience.

Interesting ! It would be great if you could connect the R+ and + to a jack and have stereo power on the III. But i doubt thats the case. The board may be the same but the way it's loaded may not. The V and IV are 150 watts which tells me the III is probably bridged. I don't see any unloaded holes for more power outputs at the output heatsink so i'm thinking they use the same outputs but jump them differently for bridge mode on the 100 watter. So you'd really need to pull the chassis on a V or IV and compare. Could be all you'd need is a few jumpers and then you could attach R+/- to a jack to go to a separate cab and you'd have a stereo setup. Of course then used as a 1x12 you'd have less power. Then again depending on what needed to be dome you could put it on a switch a dn have a 1x12 100 watt combo and by flipping a switch and adding a cab have a 75/75 watt stereo setup !

Unfortunately fender doesn't release schematics for these or i could assess the possibility easily.

Hi fellow modders,

I happened to find the schematics for all Mustang amplifiers (http://forums.fender.com/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=100594). The schematics differ from the pictures just a little (L and R swapped). As you will see highlighted in the schematics, the circuitry for the output power filters (inductor L407, capacitors C482, C483, and a bunch of resistors) in missing, but it shouldn't be hard to get those anyway.

There are two major problems in the mod, though. Mustang III misses the entire right op-amp circuitry and has a different implementation for the left channel. Also, the power source is completely different from Mustang IV and V, which runs at -/+ 37V (Mustang III runs at -/+24V).

---
Changing the subject a little bit, one mod that would be possible in the Mustang IV is to include jacks for driving other cabinets, making it pretty much a Mustang V with a inconvenient enclosure...
