Is Fender still be dedicated to improving the current V2 firmware such as adding more amp/speaker and pedal models or making existing models better? Anyone know if there is an update in the works?

I'm not complaining I have the MIII v2 and really enjoy it, just hate to see it become outdated and they come out with a V3. Hopefully the amp is capable of further software updates.

Maybe I am being unfair,, but considering the track record with the updates for the version 1 amps,, (which I have 2 of) doesn't seem to be high on the priority list.

Not complaining either but there are really some "features" lacking on the V1 amps that would probably be quite easy to fix... (we've been asking, no reply...)

So it seems they've completely abandoned the Version 1 updates a long time ago, and judging by the way products go "end of life" I wouldn't really be surprised to find out, there's nothing in the pipeline unless some serious bug pops up for the V2.

Fender, I'd love to hear "no, you're wrong!"

The generally industray accepted idea of a new "version" is when it's updated with additional functionality. Firmware updates tend to be bug fixes. I would assume adding additional functionality would be things like more effects, new amp models, additional options for customizing presets or saving presets, etc. and I would expect to see those types of things in a version 3. Additional and expanded functionality is something you should be willing to pay for. No company can be viable for very long if they spend money to research and develop new functionality only to give it away for nothing to an installed base of users.

The one thing I'd love for them to add via an update (if it's even possible), is a "manual" mode. I've upgraded from a Vox VT+ series amp and in addition to the presets it also had a pure manual mode where it would act more like a traditional amp and retain all the settings/knob positions from last use even after turning it off and back on.

I'd agree that major enhancements warrant a new product. But there's a grey area in the middle. One of the attractions of a firmware-updateable product is that we (the buying public) can feel confident buying it when it's first released, knowing it's going to get better. That boosts sales. So the manufacturer should be willing to include some additional features via firmware updates as well as the mundane but mandatory fixes.

I'm sure they can still just keep improving there modeling software and still be able to use existing hardware it would be nice to see an occasional model added, I just added the MS-4 & EXP-1 so I'm committed to getting the most from this amp. But since the amp is not that much money I can also see them not really putting a whole lot of time into updates which I hope is not the case!

I think that's exactly what you will see. Unless there's some major bug that pops up, I wouldn't count on a lot of changes at this point. This "platform", like anything else that's software driven, ages very fast. I would guess they are already off on the next shiny new object they are whipping up.

Not trying to start any rumors, but after working as an IT professional for the last 30/35 years, I know how this stuff usually rolls)

Personally, having skipped the v2 upgrade path ( which = buying a new amp), and not having a lot of hope for some new firmware changes, (like, for v1, add a Delay Off/Tap tempo for the 2 Button FS, and use a few of those "empty" controls on the Twin's and Vox's amp2 page for a Bright on/off control), which honestly, can't be all that hard, - that said I am a pretty happy owner of both a III and a IV all things considered.

I'm actually pretty intrigued to see what Fender's next generation of these products looks like. Will it be "They should have stopped with the v2 amps" or "holy crap! These are the BOMB!"

I think that at this state of the V2 doesn't make much sense to put out a firmware update unless there are big bugs to fix. Next logical step should be a V3 Version of the amp with lot of more DSP Power. So that the software can be improved and allowing unlimited effects of any type (until running out of DSP-Power), improved non-fender models and so on (have a personal wishlist ;-) ). Also the fuse software would need a reworking. Then they could think off adding new models and effects ( a good EQ would be my first choice).

But we'll see

Yes a parametric EQ would be nice especially if it was available per patch and not a global EQ that encompasses all patches.

Overall though I am super happy with my Mustang IV v2. I think part of the magic of the Mustang amps are that they DONT have a ton of DSP options and are therefore much easier to dial in.

One of the biggest things that made me go with a Mustang amp was that I was sick of tweaking settings til my eyes were about to fall out. I had read before I bought the Mustang that it was a much simpler set up than Line6 and other stuff. They were right and I'm glad for that because though I tweak little stuff here and there, I had not just usable tones and patches in under an hour but tones and patches that gave me goosebumps in that little time frame. I wish I could get back all the hours I spent with other modelers tweaking this and that and never getting there..

So though I'd love a parametric EQ I am completely satisfied with my Mustang and dont see any need to "upgrade".

I still have my Line 6 POD HD500 and have no problem to dial in great tones within a few minute. I recently used both togheter connecting the POD with the 4 cable methode to the mustang. Using the mustangs power amp only. With the new global EQ in the HD500 you can get very good tone using this setup.
