Did you use your Mustang I / II / III / IV / V / Mini / Floor in a recording? I've been using my Mustang III in my original recordings for several years, now, and would be interested in hearing examples of others' recordings. Is there a section in this forum for doing this? If not, why don't you post your examples here?

This is my latest attempt - "Swamptometrist" (it is what you call an eye doctor who lives on the bayou):

The song features my 2000 Gibson Gary Moore signature Les Paul on rhythm and lead tracks and my 2012 Rickenbacker 4003 on the bass track. The Les Paul was recorded through my Fender Mustang III v1 amp via USB. The rhythm track used a modified '59 Bassman amp model with a stereo tape delay and '65 Fender spring reverb. The lead track used a modified '65 Twin amp model with a simple compressor, vintage tremolo, stereo tape delay and large hall reverb. The LP was plugged straight into the Mustang III amp for the rhythm track. For the lead track, the LP was connected to a Boss V-Wah pedal set to the Crybaby setting. The RIC was recorded through a Zoom B3 Bass Effects pedal using the D2 patch, "UR No Good" which uses a phaser and compressor. The drum track was also created by the Zoom B3 pedal, recorded separately.

I am more an artist/writer instead of musician (IE> I suck!), but here's a song I did with my Mustang 3 v2 (65 Twin, Compressor+Stereo Tape Delay) recorded straight to my little Tascam handheld with dubbed vocal:

If interested, here is an article I wrote about Poetry vs Songwriting that was well received: https://markhahnguitar.wordpress.com/20 ... -thoughts/

Also, here's a link to my artist website which is really what I do (check out photo/essays): https://markhahnphotography.wordpress.com/

Best! (Youtube giving me error on your song and telling me to check back in 30 mins - will do and comment on your post!)

Thanks, Mark. Here's a hint: If you click the YOUTUBE button when posting a YouTube URL, it will embed the video. Just paste it between the brackets,

I remember interacting with you on a previous post here. I think we were talking about TASCAM portable recorders. Nice work!

Thanks! Yeah, jumping right into all this at 55 and learning what I can! :)

Without knowing anything, I bought the DR-07MKII on a special closeout price of $80. If I wasn't so strapped for cash at the moment or had I known what I wanted to do then, I would have definitely bought something else, but aside from being extremely limiting, the DR-07MKII does provide the rudiments of a pocket lo-fi studio (my lack of talent is the biggest limition!). I wasn't happy with how the DR-07MKII recorded my voice with its built in mics, so I got a Sennheiser e385 to plug into the Tascam and it's much better. For some reason, I'm happier with the guitar tracks recorded straight from Mustang III to Tascam than I am from Mustang USB out to my computer into Reaper -- maybe there is a something I don't understand about setting up my computer, but I thought that the USB out bipassed the soundcard, so the recording should be clean, but I'm not happy with that.

Anyway, learning to do the best I can with what I have. For my 3 hardcore music fans (really, fans of my art and writing who think it's cool I'm playing around with songwriting), I'll probably put together a solo CD sometime soon once I figure out how to get the best sound with what I have.

:)

The USB is capable of very good recordings, but you have to watch your levels. Don't let it clip, or it will sound very bad. Also, you may need to run Fuse software to set the USB output level, since having a signal that is too low can sound bad, too. I usually set it near mid-point, depending on the amp model. The USB output level is in the Advanced Amp section of Fuse. But whatever works for you is what you should go with. Good luck with your CD!

Thanks! Maybe it is just something as simple as that! I'll give it a try! I had to figure out the leveling with the Tascam recording to get a decent sound there, so it would make sense. It would be nice to record the guitar into Reaper and make minor adjustments before putting it in the Tascam for vocal over dubbing since that it strictly a one shot destructive process. I like the aesthetics of parking in a dark alley and recording my vocals there! :)

Here's a twangy one I recorded last month. It features my 2011 American Deluxe Strat using my go-to custom patch based on a '65 Twin Reverb with vintage tremolo, stereo tape delay and small hall reverb:

"A-Minor Distraction" - this song originally had an acoustic lead track, but I never really liked it.

I finally re-recorded the lead using my Les Paul and a customized "Vox" patch, shown below:

That's a Mustang III v1 recorded using the USB interface. A Martin DC Aura is on rhythm and a Rickenbacker 4003 is on bass. Drums are from Adobe Audition Loopology clips from version 3.0. I don't think their online subscription-based Audition even supports Loopology, which is a shame. Not that I'd pay their monthly fees.

That's cool. I rarely do covers, but I did something similar to you a few years ago. I removed Fogerty's lead guitar on "Born on the Bayou" and replaced it with my own. His lead guitar was pretty much panned right, so my guitar is on the right channel, but I allowed some of the original CCR left channel audio into the mix on that side so it wouldn't sound so lopsided. I posted it on my own site because I figured SoundCloud would flag it:
http://josephrellis.com/?attachment_id=487

I used a '59 Bassman model and added and tweaked the tremolo by ear until it sounded right. This image shows a stereo tape delay enabled, but that was for another recording. I kicked in the overdrive during the lead parts between the verses. The rest of the time it was just the tremolo and spring reverb effects enabled:
