Have your web team forgotten about desktop users?
Tablets and phones are not the be all and end all of using web sites.
It's obnoxiously enormous on desktop .

Actually, the website/forum is just badly designed, full-stop, regardless of device, and has been getting worse with each update over the last year or two. I have discussed this directly with Fender; interestingly the people I spoke to at Fender all agree, so it's not clear who at Fender is driving their web (mis-)design.

Another bug with the latest update is that (for me at least) I no longer get the marker showing unread topics/posts - everything is displayed as already-read. Sigh.

I’m not usually one to complain about things in life that aren’t all that important but I’ll make an exception here.

It sucks on my iphone too. I prefer to have a standard web page that I can zoom in on if I wish.

Agreed. The new design is poor.

Looks poor on my iPad Mini, as well.

Hmmm.. It looks OK on my desktop. Try holding down CTRL key and tapping + or _ to change the size. or click the size box next to the Close X

Personally I'm mystified about why Fender deemed it necessary to do what they've done with this forum. There are ample off-the-shelf forum programs that have proven themselves in large-scale use on a variety of sites, yet Fender somehow came to the conclusion they needed to either develop or purchase a one-off piece of customized forum software that's embarassingly buggy and amateurish. I'm not sure I'd want my otherwise well-respected company to be represented this way to the world. But it appears Fender has given carte blanche to whoever has put their web site together to do as they please. I'm hoping that maybe the developer will lose interest and move on once he gets into high school and starts dating.

Yes but that changes the size of every web site, so not a solution.

ALSO FENDER GET RID OF THE THREAD TITLES IN BOLD CAPS

Capitals are MUCH LESS easy to read quickly AND IT'S SHOUTING

Huh? Isn't this just PhpBB with a few modifications?

Agreed! It blows!!!
Fender?
Are you listening?
Here are YOUR customers speaking... The actual owners and the actual people who you built this forum for, telling you it sucks...
In fact... I don't recall seeing ANY complaints about the old forum, yet you felt compelled to "improve" it while leaving the actual products we PAY for untouched or unimproved ;)

Hooray! - titles in capitals have gone - that's a good first step.

I thought the desktop experience was being compromised in order to make an amazing mobile-device website. I was wrong, I just tried this on a bog-standard Android phone (ie the sort of device that should have been core to the website's pre-release QA). Apart from not looking good and being hard to use, the number of blatant bugs is just amazing.

However, I think I've found the reason for the changes: Google have changed their criteria for search ranking to favour "mobile friendly" sites. So there's a rush of website changes happening all across the net in order to stay google-compatible. But these criteria seem odd: very large font sizes, widely-spaced text and links, etc. So it minimises the amount of useful stuff you get on a screen - any screen, of any size. It's catering, as usual, for the lowest common denominator and spoiling things for the vast majority. What's the point following google's rules if the end result isn't good for people?

It's perfectly easy to design a website that makes effective and efficient use of the screen real-estate to show information, while also having easily navigable links etc. I just wish web designers/programmers would engage their brains occasionally. Rant over. Return to guitar playing.

Ya Fender. The forum is not very good. I mean the forum, not the content. I don't enjoy reading posts, replying or asking questions anymore. I primarily use an iPad.

IMHO it took a turn for the worst when the redisgned it.

Regards.

The Fender Forums site is entirely usable on a Samsung Galaxy TabPro 12.2 or Samsung Galaxy TabPro 8.4 Android tablets! Even on my Samung Galaxy S4 Active, the forums are usable.

Granted not as luxurious as using my desktop PC w/ 21" monitor, but no problems encountered.

All the above are running latest Google Chrome browsers. On the Tablets I often run the browers in Desktop site mode, but even in default mobile site mode they have no problems.

I had been gone from this forum for right at a year for some back issues and then, finally, some spinal surgery in April. Just getting around again now (and practicing! :D ).

I came back to find this layout! It was a WTF moment  GAWD, it is awful.
