about a year ago I tried one of the mustang amps. just didn't work for me, so it went back, and I got back into tube amps-a peavey 60 watt ultra 112 to be exact. I got a steal on the price, and i'm very happy with it.

I have been looking for a small practice amp that I could lug around easily, and be able to plug headphones in for quiet practice. while at guitar center today, I spotted a mustang 1 in the used department. I played with it for about 1/2 hour, and it came home with me. as soon as I got back home I had to go to work :(

well, I just played with it for about an hour, and I am happy to see it is exactly what I needed. a good sound from an 8 inch speaker, and enough effects to keep me happy. definitely not a gigging amp, but a useful tool to have. well done, fender

Welcome back. The Mustang series is an amazingly flexible line of amplifiers. Once you have time to sit down and LEARN the interface anyone should be able to get the tone they are looking for.

As far as gigs, it depends on the venue. I am off to busk tomorrow with my Mini, which is the perfect guitarist busker's amp. For clubs and indoors venues, the Mustang IV fits the bill, at least for Archtop Bill.

the III also is a decent gig worthy amp as long as you don't have a heavy handy drummer.

I've a III and a IV (both version 1), the other guy in my band has a III while the IV is definitely enough to work in almost any situation, the III for what we're doing, works just fine (I bought the IV when the V1 amps were being blown at, I couldn't look the other way on with a $299 sale price.

Yep as above the Mustang III is gigable 100%. I bought mine to play small venues only. However since we always mic up have used her to play the bigger venues too. I think there is plenty coming from the amp in that middle ground. If your not micing up and have another guitarist with a 4x12 with a loud drummer then you might consider the IV which will give a much bigger sound.

after playing with my v1 for a few days, I am still very happy. however....

I had a few gift cards, and was near guitar center again (well....6 miles away, but close enough  ). I played thru the 'stang 3 v2 for grins, and was blown away. what an improvement over the 40 watt v1 I returned a while ago.

I haven't had a chance to hook up fuse yet, so if I may indulge- tell me how you most use it. artist song sounds, tweaking the presets or whatever else you can recommend.

also, after making my own sounds, is there a way to rename them in fuse? I would love that. thanks in advance for your help.

I don't really use Fuse all that much. The vast majority of the presets listed can be accomplished by yourself with bit of patience and understanding of the settings.

The one variation on that is any preset done by "intheblues". Shane is typically very good and thorough when he develops a preset, so it's generally pretty spot-on with the sound he's reproducing.

Any preset can be renamed. Just follow the directions in the manual and make sure you save it with the new name.

just change then name when you save it, it's that simple.

check the fuse web site if you want to play around with some of the downloadable presets that are available.

some nice ones! (there are a lot of them, you could spend a while on them)

I use FUSE for pretty much all preset editing and moving the presets around into the different 'slots'. The only time I touch the physical knobs on the amp is to make small adjustments to TREBLE/MID/BASS/VOLUME and of course the MASTER volume. When you make a quick edit using the knobs on the amp, just press SAVE twice if you like what you hear.

As mentioned above, the presets created by user intheblues are some of the best. Here is the list: LINK

Welcome phreddybee. Good to see a familiar … face? In the mustang forums. I got a Mustang II v.2 at home. Bought it to plink on with low expectations and have been blown away by how great sounding and versatile it is.

Look forward to your feedback (no pun intended)

You can rename the presets in FUSE (as has been said), but on the MI or MII, it's really just the slot that you put it in that matters since you can't see the name on the amp, so it's not that useful unless you are hooked up to your computer while you play. Other than the sound, the interface of the MIII was why I chose that over the MI... even though I would like to find a cheap used MI sometime for a very light travel amp. IMO, FUSE is pretty seamless to use, just hook it up and make your presets how you want them... though with ability to do most of it all easily on my MIII I don't use it much (renaming presets and accessing the few features not available on my amp - like acessing the "bright" setting on the 65 Twin). Have fun! The little MI can be a great little amp! FUSE makes it really versatile!

I'm not a guy to complain about things, especially something as brilliant as these amps are.

but, WHY didn't they grab one of the empty control slots in page 2 of the amp settings for a "Bright" on/off switch? oy vhey!

you can beat it by setting up two different go to twin presets, one with, one without bright but,, really would have been an easy problem to solve.

ok rant off..

Agree about the Bright setting, in fact, I wouldn't have even known about the Bright switch had I not gone into FUSE! That is really bad design... but the amp and software do amazing things for the total price, so I'm good! :)

The only complaint i have in Mustang II land is that it would be great to be able to hold down Exit and tap the tap button to turn on and off a stomp that you have say in Stomp Slot 1. Just like they did with the 'Mid Knob'. I would love to be able to set my clean amp in the orange slot so I can never get deleted but be able to do the above function and save it to green or red. That’d be a game changer. Everything else is basically my own problem for not buying a mustang III. This at least would make the amp more flexible down the road when my amp is vintage and todays computers are tomorrows commodore 64s

Agree. This is a strange omission. This has been asked before in this forum; hopefully Fender have taken note and future firmware updates (for both V1 and V2 amps!) will fix this. Or am I too optimistic?

I had a chance to play with the amp for quite a while yesterday. I am amazed how easy it is to use, even without the fuse hooked up.

I just found a 4 button footswitch online. I had to check out several places before I could find one-at a lot of places they will not be back in stock until april. mine should be here early next week, and I can't wait to use it.
