If the black areas on the amp look like carbon, it's V1. Also the V2 has a more "modern" (but harder to read) font and the name "Mustang IV" is written black on a white stripe.
Also the V2 has XLR outputs and the V1 has not.

The cabinet cloth is the most immediately distinctive change - if of course you know what both cloths look like!

The presence (V2 amp) or absence (V1 amp) of XLR sockets is perhaps the most unambiguous difference.

Other things to check:

Turn the amp on. Press UTIL a few times until the display says "About this Amp" then look at "Version" - If it's 1.xx you have a V1 amp. If the version is 2.xx you have a V2 amp.

Also, if the GAIN, VOLUME, TREBLE, etc, labels for the knobs are above the knobs in roman (upright, not italic) print, then it's a V1 amp. If the labels are below the knobs in bold, italic print, then it's a V2 amp.

Not your model amp pictured below, but the covering is the same. Here's the difference between the v1 covering/graphics and v2:

OK so the v2 amps have a few extra featured, but personally I like the look of the v1 amps better.

Now if they'd only bring back the carbon tweed covering, but in a tweed color .....

I have a project going to re-tolex my Mustang III in blonde/oxblood. When I finally get around to it, I will post here ;)

Sweet! Please do! Have you seen what's under the factory covering yet? Please if you have the time, take pics periodically as the work is performed too.

No, all I have done so far is locate a supplier for tolex and grille and someone who would do the recovering for me. Since the most time-consuming (thus expensive) part is removing the old tolex and the glue, I plan to do that myself and let the actual re-tolexing do someone more experienced. Costs are an estimated 160 EUR including material.

But yes, I'll take pictures as the work progresses.

really looking forward to that. I'm curious just how well the cabinets are put together, and what kind of materials they used.

The cabinets are as cheap as you can get. MDF.
