As far as providing a link to a zip file - this is something that someone else put their time, (however much that was), into assembling and selling, so to make it available for free would, to me, be similar to what Napster was doing a few years back, without the creators of a product getting paid for it.

I was actually thinking the conflict of interest goes the other way. Someone is downloading Fender's content and selling it for a profit.

Two thoughts:

The CD of presets is probably fine. The person could legitimately say they are charging for postage and packaging, the cost of a blank CD-R, and their time in putting the disc in the mail. Also, did the person actually claim it was downloaded presets from the Fender site? It could just be 9900 random presets. Or if he'd made identical presets himself to those on the Fender site and put them on a CD, he's in the clear. There's nothing to stop two people making the same preset.

More worrying: what's the situation if I download a preset and use it on my amp at a gig for which I'm being paid? That would appear to be using Fender content for commercial purposes!

Well assuming the Ebay ad is the one I found when searching (I don't want to post a link here), these are the answers to those questions:

"So Why The Charge? The Presets are free. I am charging for the Ebay ad and the time and effort it took to gather the collection."

"Most of these Fender Mustang Presets are made by players who own an amplifier in the Fender Mustang Series and use the FUSE software program, are Players and Musicians."

 I guess they could potentially have a case there. Better not win a Grammy.

IMO, if he's claiming he'd charging for the money he spent on an Ebay ad and the time spent .... does that mean he will stop selling once he's recouped his production costs? Who is keeping track of that? Hmmmmmmmm......

Yup, that's the one I found and used.
I'm not going through all of them, when I have a tone I'm trying to get, I can just look through them to find something that looks similar, and then use that as a starting point to build what I am looking for. It's as much a learning tool as anything, I think for me. I can afford the ten bucks, I got that kind of money!

Possibly a valid point, strings, I hadn't thought about it from the angle of it possibly being considered property of Fender.

OK, it won't let me paste the file into this message. It's a little over 10 mb, how would I do this?
