Hey all,

This is kind of a wide question but i have been having problems recording quieter clean guitars with my Mustang V and my Interface (Yamaha Audiogram 3). When i try to record quiet/clean i get annoying background noise/hiss. I think i have narrowed it down to the interface as the source of the problem but there is also the fact that i have been recording into the Interface with the Mustang via a regular Monster cable with an 18" adapter into the "Phones" jack. I have also read about this problem coming from the amp too.

So, should i trade my V for a V2 and use the XLR inputs, or does it matter? And what interfaces might you recommend or that you use and work well? I need one that works with Cubase.

Can't you use the Mustang's USB output directly to Cubase? That way you get rid of one D/A -> A/D conversion in the signal chain.

Install the Fender ASIO driver and Cubase should detect it as an input device. Or Cubase may already install suitable ASIO drivers of its own (or you have asio4all etc).

Or, if you really want an analogue output from the amp for recording, you can use the fx-send sockets on your (V1) Mustang V head as a line-out. This may give better audio quality than using the headphones socket.

Further, rather than using an external audio interface, why not try just connecting to the line-in socket on your PC's internal soundcard? That may give surprisingly good results (an external interface may claim to have better ADCs etc than a standard soundcard, but reducing the number of components in the signal chain may be better overall).
