Mine is an ART. Pretty cheap but does the job. Not really trying to get the tone out of the preamp - just adding some tube tone to the signal so that the modeling amp has something better to work with. Same principle as using a tube preamp with a mic or keyboards. Or to add fullness to an acoustic guitar. Still not as good as a tube amp but if I can put it in the gigbag pocket and make it out the door with guitar in one hand and modeling amp in the other then the tube amp stays home. I'm sure there are better models than the ART but it works fine. If you have a hard time telling a tube amp from a modeling amp, it gets even harder when you sweeten it up with a little tube preamp. Not enough difference to make me want to haul the tube amp around. Fender makes a hybrid modeling amp with tube preamp and power sections but I haven't found a good price on a used one yet.
