Simple, select one of the "dry" amp models. Assuming you have a V2 and have the factory presets these are presets 83 through 99 and labeled Basic _____

You need to understand that the Mustang doesn't have a sound of its own, so there is no "Mustang clean." The Mustang is a modelling amp, and is (almost) always emulating the sound of another particular amp. So a better question is: "which amp model on my Mustang will best let me clearly hear the clean sound of my Fender Strat."

Also, the Mustang doesn't just model amps, it models a wide range of guitar effects too - that's the whole point of it. These you can bypass if you want.

So the answer to your question is probably to use the Fender Twin Reverb model, with all other effects turned off. As Archtop Bill notes, you can find this setup for you already amongst the "Basic..." presets, or you can easily set it up using the buttons on the amp.

Further, the reason I say "(almost) always" above is that the V2 amps (such as yours) include a "Studio" amp model that is even cleaner than the Twin Reverb. That may be what you're looking for - although you may find that a bit too sterile. Experiment until you find the sound you like.

If you don't know (or can't figure out - it really is as simple as turning the big knob) how to do the above without reading the manual, I'm not sure what you're asking? It would be better and quicker just to read the manual than to expect another forum user to type in the same info again here; you have to read the same stuff either way.

The Mustang is a very versatile amp from which you can get a great range of sounds and effects - but you need to understand how to use it in order to achieve that. From personal experience, the small investment in time and effort to gain that understanding will rapidly pay for itself in terms of your enjoyment at what you can do with this amp. Also, there are already many "beginner tutorial" topics in this forum; hunt for those and the good advice they contain from other users experiences will be very helpful to you I'm sure. Don't be put off by the (actually quite small and simple) manual, it will help you.

(In fact, it probably won't be long before you're asking the same question that's appeared many times before in this forum - why isn't the manual bigger with more information in it!)

Or conversely, if what you're saying is "I want a simple, clean guitar amp that doesn't need a manual" then maybe the Mustang isn't the right amp for you? Although if that is what you're thinking, then again don't be put off in the early stages. The Mustang can do clean-and-simple - in fact far better at the price than most other amps (and better than some costing much more) so I'd say the Mustang is eminently suitable for that. But you're also getting a whole load more that you can just ignore for now if you don't need it yet.

If that is the case, then I'd suggest you find the clean sound you want (as per suggestions above) and then save that as preset 00 (read the advanced manual section "Saving Presets" pages 8 to 9, no need for me to cut and paste the identical words here) so your amp will be setup with that sound every time you turn it on.

As is so often the case, Scott UK covered the issue thoroughly. Scott, ever thought about writing The Guitarist's Guide to the Mustang? Go eBook and keep all the proceeds or approach Hal Leonard for royalties.

As I often tell other guitarists, the Mustang is a computer peripheral. That being the case, to get the most out of it, reading the manual is the quickest way to beginning to hear what you want coming out of it.
