Regarding the upgrade from the MI to MIII, I think that is well worth it! I bought a MI first and used it for almost a month before returning it to GS for the MIII. The sound is way fuller and better and less "boxy." Also, as noted above, the controls are significantly better... just a joy to use! Also, the tuner in the MIII is a significant upgrade -- especially when you want to tune for a capo. Regarding the price, I found an online price of MIII for $299 and made GS match it. This brings it a little closer. Still, the used price you are getting seems reasonable to me, so you decide if the upgrades and peace of mind buying new are worth it to you -- they would be for me, but still, saving over $100 is significant. The one thing I did regret about trading the MI for the MIII was the bigger size and heavier weight... sometimes for informal travel I'd prefer the much smaller MI... so I've been watching Craig's List hoping to find a MI for $50... anyway, enjoy whatever new amp you get... love my MIII v2!

I picked up my "new" used Mustang V1 today. All I can say is WOW! I was very happy with my M1 but this one sounds SO much better. I had no idea. So far I've found what I think is a preset that I like a lot. It's "00" with some tape delay and reverb. So nice for blues.

Not sure if it's my imagination but the response to my touch is so much better. I almost sound good when playing through it. Makes me want to practice even more.

Thanks to all for your advise and encouragement to make the upgrade. I'm very happy with it. Now all I have to do is figure out how to work it.

If you're talking about the Liquid Solo preset (00 on v1 amps), then no, it's not your imagination. As a "solo" type tone, it was likely set up specifically to do that. I've noticed it myself. Heck I bought mine used, and the fellow I got it from was raving about it too. Also, If you can wind the master up above 4 or so, it comes alive even more.

I have to agree with you- when you find a tone with just the right amount of gain that it makes the harmonics just pop out, and your guitar come alive it's hard to put it down, eh? Kind of makes you feel like a RAWK God, the slightest touch pays big dividends.

That particular preset really works well with P90's. I actually use it as a reference tone when I'm demoing guitars in the store.
