I currently have the Mustang Floor plugged into the input of my amp. Sounds really good. I use no other pedals or effects. Is there any advantage or disadvantage of setting it up through the amp's effects loop? Thanks

I think generally Delays, Choruses, and Reverbs sound better in the loop. but if you are using the drive, wah and compression from the floor, you may wanna keep it as is.

There is a user on here with the handle of scott-uk... he knows this stuff pretty good... perhaps he will see this and shed some more light on the subject.

mojo_plasma has summed-up standard practice for this sort of thing. But just experiment and find what sounds good for you. The internet is full of articles on where to put various effects in the signal chain for best results. If you google "guitar effects order" or similar you'll get lots of good stuff on the first results page.

One issue with the Mustang Floor is that you can't 'split' its effects into two sections: one before your amp and one in the fx-loop. So you can't do a full "4 cable method" solution. If you run your real amp 'clean' and use the M-Floor for all your effects, including overdrive/distortion as well as chorus, flanger, reverb, etc, etc, then you can get away with putting the M-Floor in front of your amp, and not worry about the amp's fx-loop.

Or put the M-Floor in the amp's fx-loop and (against common wisdom) add your distortion effects there. Only you can decide if that gives a sound that suits your needs. Try all permutations until you find the one that sounds best for you.

I use a few pedals in the floor loop. Mainly distortion options - a MXR Distortion+, The MXR Green OD and the MXR LA Machine Fuzz. The advantage of using those in that fashion is that they are out of the signal path when I don't need them. You can have the one(s) you want to add, you can just use the Floor footswitch to put them in and out of the path. The downside is that they are limited to being first in line before any of the Floor processing.

For me it works. The OD and Fuzz on the Floor are OK - useable in a pinch, but I think the pedals I have added offer me an over all better tone.

One other thought jffj...
If it is a tube amp, you may try plugging directly into the effects return of your amp... instead of the input. This is another option people with decent tube amps do. It will bypass your amps pre-amp section and allow you to just use it's power amp section.
Then use the Floor for amp modeling... it will yield some pretty good results and give the floor amp models a lot more realistic feel.
