Since it doesn't look like there is anything coming this year you guys must have plenty of time to work on v3 features :) So here's what I would like to see:

  1. App. Seriously. The Mustang platform should have had Bluetooth and an app from the get-go instead of this stupid Silverlight software. I even bought a cheap Windows tablet just for controlling my Mustang via USB.
Or at least open up the protocol definition so someone can build a Raspberry Pi as a interface between amp and phone and sell it on Kickstarter or something.
  2. MIDI control of patches and effects, or at least more control options for the foot switches.
  3. Blonde/Oxblood finish. I would even pay more to have that than the standard black.
  4. Tiltable display so you don't have to walk all the way to the amp to see the current patch/config.
  5. More DSP power, so we can have two effects of a type at the same time. Stomp boxes especially.
  6. More robust jacks. The USB jack especially feels pretty wonky on all Mustangs I have seen. Use a normal USB type B jack like you do on the Floor and put it in the back. Phone jack is a pretty common complaint here as well.
  7. Use the "soft" knobs for all parameters (i.e. FX params or Amp page 2), not only for what is written below them.
  8. Equalize the Aux-in so it sounds at least marginally acceptable through the amp speaker.

Have you seen the Linux project 'Plug' ? - it aims to replicate Fuse
So whatever the builder of that needed on the SDK, it was discoverable..
Otherwise - yup be good to have some of those features.

Yeah, I know about Plug. But I don't think anyone would start building and selling things using that without at least an official note from Fender condoning it.

I posted the other day on this forum asking if any new sightings of a V.3 Mustang were seen at the recent NAMM show. Apparently not. I called Fender customer service yesterday and asked if an update to the Mustang was to be released and I was told no, not that the person was aware of.

So it looks like my order for a Mustang III V. 2 is going in to Amazon.

You should be happy with the V2. I hope I am not being too optimistic, but I expect Fuse to evolve or be completely replaced. These should extend the capabilities of the of the platform.

Even if they do not, I expect to get years of playing enjoyment out of both my Mustangs.

Great idea. They could call it Super Champ or something. Oh wait...

Different situation. That's 15 watts, and without much of the tweakability of the MIII and up.

I'm thinking pairing the control panel of a Mustang III, and all it's goodies with a higher output tube power section. We'd also get an FX loop; XLR out; dual foot switch options; and hopefully a speaker out. I'd keep the headphone out and aux in, too. All this without the need to bring a computer with you to gigs/ rehearsals etc to tweak. The "Vintage modified" series doesn't have most of these options, and you need to use Fuse to do any deep editing , to access fx not on the amp itself, and to make and save patches.

This wish list item would give you the killer tone of the SC X2, in a more powerful, more giggable package- with all the advantages of the Mustang series!

It seems like the next logical step. Perhaps a 4x EL84 version and a 4x 6V6 version.

Problem with that is that Fender would have to emulate the power amp tube sound for the XLR output anyway, so either it would sound different (which would make the XLR out useless) or the emulation would be so good that the tubes would be pointless.

Other than that: Nice idea. You could even bias the tubes differently per preset.

I'm not sure there wouldn't be more to lose than to gain for Fender to add a tube power section to the Mustang series. I know for myself and probably many others it's not a feature I would use but it would undoubtedly add significantly to the price point. In fact, unless it was a feature that was totally by-passable via a switch it would probably compel me to not move to the V3 regardless of additional features I might find desireable. I can't imagine how mad I would be if my amp broke down because I had to replace a burned out or broken tube in a power section I didn't want, need, or use.

Why shell out for a combo if you aren't going to use the power amp or speaker?? Just get the Floor.

Besides, I was thinking more along the lines of a "PRO" version or something. The price point (and profitability) of the digi/solid state Mustangs is too good to pass up. A "Special" hybrid version might be just the ticket for some- considering all the feedback you read inre the SC X2 (esp those wanting more power and gig friendly options for it!). Maybe even wean some of the "toob or die" crowd over to the Dark Side, lol.

I own both an MIII and an SC X2. When played A/B using the same model, the difference is pretty noticeable. Surprising just how much that 6V6 power section adds to the sound- and I rarely run mine much over bedroom level. I end up using the Musty far more though- it's more controllable, volume-wise at low levels; plus the other extras, like the tuner, and the on amp editing options make it hard to replace! (I've been known to plug into the MIII to tune up, then switch the cable to the 'Champ to play) That dedicated clean channel on the Champ, alone, is worth the price of admission. It sounds great, increases in volume gradually, has a nice creamy crunch when cranked, and it takes pedals like... well like a Champ!

As for the XLR dilemma, don't some newer tube amps come with that feature? I Know I've seen it somewhere... There HAS to be a way to make it work. If all else fails, You could always mic the speaker.

The variable bias idea for different models sounds pretty neat!

If they do, I'm pretty sure it's only a pre-amp-out, so the power amp sound is not included.

Yes, miking is always an option, but for me it's an additional hassle every time that I like to avoid. (Another mike stand in the way or a cable hanging over the amp knobs, mike position, feedback, spill...)

Agreed! Bluetooth (or USB) app for tablets/phones
More effects
I even like the hybrid part

Hey maybe I should buy a zoom G5 (up to 9 effects and a real tube boost) and put it in front of my Mustang. Even if you don't use its effects, the Mustang is a cheap amp.
