Hi Guys

I have the EXP-1 and both the 2 & 4 switch foot pedals with the Mustang III (V2). I'm aiming to be able to use a pedal to lower the master volume while also using the exp-1 as a wah pedal. Is this possible to control wah pedal and a volume pedal at the same time?

Ideally I don't want to lose either foot pedal, as I like the 6 switch combo. Can I daisy chain a volume pedal inbetween any of the pedals and if so where would the pedal sit and what type do you recommend?

If it is not possible to keep both foot switches, would a volume pedal plug into the 2-switch foot pedal input?

Finally, for lead boost where would I place a booster pedal when using the exp-1 amd 2 foot switches?

Cheers
Hayz

Unfortunately, you have to make a choice with the exp-1 and the 4-button switch as they both require being plugged into the 4-button input. You can get a standalone wah/volume pedal similar to the exp-1 which you would plug in first in your signal chain. In effect, guitar -> volume/wah -> other stomp boxes -> amp. As far as a booster pedal you would plug that in just after the volume/wah, or just use the ranger boost built into the amp and control it from the 4-button footswitch.

Doesn't the exp-1 plug INTO the 4 button footswitch, and not the amp?

Also, for a VOLUME swell/ boost kinda thing, simply plug a standard volume pedal into the fx loop of the amp. You can also use an eq pedal for this, if you just need a set jump in volume.

If you want a GAIN boost effect, (for taking a solo, or for leads for ex) then use the Ranger booster stomp in the amp's fx section.

To do BOTH wah and boost at once, you'd need to either do my first suggestion- using your EXP-1 to control the wah effect, or if you want to boost your gain with the volume pedal you'd probably need to plug a regular wah pedal in between the amp and guitar. Never tried it, but I'm guessing switching your exp-1 back and forth between wah and boost/volume on the fly would be problematic at best...

While these amp can do a bewildering array of different things, they can't do every possible combination of things. Occasionally, an actual real pedal will be needed to get the specific set up you want. Still a bargain vs futzing around with a full real pedalboard, right?!

Pyroman is right. You don't choose between the 4 button and the EXP-1. They're designed to be daisy chained.
I use my EXP-1 as volume pedal when in green mode and a wah when in red mode. It's just a question of setting it up that way in Fuse.

Pedal Default Mode: From Preset
Preset Defaults to: Volume Pedal
Volume Mode Behavior: Volume
Heel Volume: 0%
Toe Volume: 100%
Expression Mode Behavior: Stomp Box
Parameter: FREQ
Heel Setting: 0%
Toe Setting: 100%
Pedal Mode: Capture
Bypass effect when switching to Volume Mode: check
Reset parameter to preset value when switching to Volume Mode: uncheck

There's only one 1/4 plug on the 4 button footswitch which is used for the cable that runs to the 4-button plug on the amp. There's no place to plug in or daisy chain the volume/wah pedal either on the amp or the 4-button footswitch.

4 button has one socket, but Exp1 pedal has two - an 'in' from MS4 and an 'out' to Amp - so it does daisy chain.

exactly.

From the EXP-1 manual:
The EXP-1 connects directly to the MS-4, 4 button footswitch input on the Mustang III, IV, V, and to the EXP-1/MS-4 input on the Mustang Floor. It also contains a pass-through jack that allows you to daisy chain the MS-4, 4 button footswitch. This aids in reducing the clutter normally associated with multiple pedals in your setup.

Hi Guys

Thanks for the replies :-)

I already plug the 4 button switch into the EXP-1 and have the 2 button switch connected as well.

Pyroman's suggestion would work for when I'm using the EXP-1 as the way pedal - plugging a regular volume pedal into the FX loop, but as I'm a noob to volume pedals please can someone suggest a good basic volume pedal to use with the mustang 3 v2 and also would this go into the Loop or the return. Finally would this simply control the gain switch? Or could you set it up to control another parameter such as the preset volume?

Many thanks
Hayz

That depends if you want a volume boost or a volume swell. A volume pedal allows control over the volume Where as boost gives you a set amount of gain.

I have always found the MXR Micro Amp to provide an excellent clean boost if placed in the loop. I have also owned the Boss FV500 and found it to be a exstremely reliable pedal plus its built like a tank also placed in the loop.

OK I have exactly the same set up as you except I personally don't like the wah on the amp. Hence as suggested earlier I use the EX-1 (daisy chained witht the 4 button switch) for the volume boost and simply add a cry baby wah in chain from guitar to amp. Once you start adding items in the loop your increasing your cable count and your set up and tare down times.

Hi Hobbyist

Thanks for the advice.

I think I'll do the same as you and buy a xh baby and use the EXP-1 for volume.

Where exactly do I place the crybaby in the chain - sorry to be naive here but not sure exactly where to position it with the 2 and 4 button switches and exp-1.

Cheers

Between the guitar and the amp.

Yes, sorry I'm still a bit confused, as I use A wireless solution for my guitar which plugs into the amp (guitar input) and the two foot switches and exp-1 occupy the pedal inputs in the back of the amp. Would I be able to add the crybaby by daisy chaining in any way or does it need to plug directly into amp? If so, could it go in the loop or send ? Or could it go betweeen the wireless box and amp?

Best wishes
Hayz

OK I also have a wireless unit which I employ sometimes. The chain is as follows.

Guitar ---> Wirless Transmitter ---- thin air
Wireless Receiver --> Wah --> Amp.

4 Button Switch --> EXP1 --> Amp 4 Button Input
2 Button Switch --> Amp 2 Button Input

Hope this helps
