In your opinion, which of the clean amps will give the most transparent response? I want to put my Digitech Brian May pedal through my Mustang IV for some Queen songs. I've tried "studio pre" thinking that would be the best choice, but the output was very low compared to Fender amp models..

The studio preamp is supposed to be for just that type of thing.

Try plugging into the effects loop return. This will bypass the preamp and most or all of the stangs DSP ( digital signal processing).

If you use the studio preamp model instead, turn up the volume or gain to increase relative loudness compared to other presets.

rock on

A different slant on this: if you want a Brian May tone, then you should use the "British 60s" amp model - this is the AC30, which Mr May uses. My guess is that a large part of what the "Brian May" pedal does, is to emulate an AC30.

That won't do it.

You need two AC30s - one of which is behind a boost pedal with bass/mid/treble controls, and mid and treble turned all the way to the top.

And, of course, pickups with phase reverse switches, so you can have three live pickups, with one of them out of phase. The net result is that the base tone is as strong as a single pickup, and everything else gets a boost and shimmer.

That said, you can get a reasonably good approximation if using a Tele with a metal pick and a phase pedal. Strat, not so much.
