No not looking for a Fuse patch for the Aerosmith song…

After ripping my strat apart to repair, refinish and rebuild (long story) I’m finally getting back to my Mustang II. My acoustic is great but I sure missed those tones. What a joy it was plugging in and cranking it up again. My perspective after being away from it for so long? I really can’t be bothered with Fuse anymore. I just want to play the damn thing and not tweak. Put my clean 65 Twin and Smelly 59 Bassman patch on the two footswitch slots an that’s that. Luckily I had programmed the FX Knobs for what I use most commonly and have a compressor and a couple ODs on the front so there’s really no need. I’ll probably go in and set up some other presets with basic amps for future greener pastures but it’s very liberating ditching Fuse. Maybe I’m just getting old.

I hear what you're saying... Fuse is cool but, I find it much easier... and practical... to simply dial in what I'm looking for right off the amp.

You may want to get a Mustang III... They sound better than the MII's, and you can do pretty much everything and anything right from the amp without having to go into fuse at all 8)

They don't weigh too much at apprx. 31 pounds (I REALLY like this... I'm tired of hauling heavy amps around... been there... done that... over it...)... great sound at lower volumes and they're powerful enough to rock out with a band as well... you get the best of both worlds

Yeah I’m kicking myself for not getting the III

I had a Hot Rod DeVille 4x10 that got stolen and I couldn’t afford a replacement. I hope the thieves have back problems now. Since I don’t do the band thing anymore, I was just looking for a little practice amp to go with my GT6. Had I known how much I’d love it, I’d have sold the GT6 and gone with the III. Oh well. In a couple years when the mortgage is paid off I was thinking of getting something like a 65 Princeton RI. But it will be exciting to see where the mustang line is then. Who knows, I’m sure whatever permutation of the MIII is at that time will be worth picking up if they keep at it.

You can't get to the "Bright" switch on the '65 Twin without hooking up to your computer (even with a MIII). It's a subtle thing, but I prefer the slightly darker sound with the Bright switch turned off (by default it's on).

Thanks! Yeah it took me a while… very educational.

Had some neck and bridge issues that needed to be addressed that I had been putting off and also a really bad ding that was bugging me. Long story short, attempted to repair the ding and made it worse so it turned into a summer project with a complete redrill of the bridge and neck and a refinish of the body. I just plink on the couch these days so it fortunately I could just take my time. The biggest woe being only able to play the Ovation while looking at the Mustang in the corner.

Here’s the final goods… used to be transparent green. There’s a whole chronology of this on the Fender Lounge forum. “Evolution of a Ding…” if you care to see the whole story.

You raise a good point. I think I tried this and found I’m more of a Bright Switch On kind of guy but it is definitely something I’ll take another look at. I have Fuse up at work and I’m editing my backup file to have the amp models I’d feel I’d use in the Amber slots with no stomps as well as some tweaks of the FX Knobs so I can just restore and get right down to business. A new start for the new year. Might keep the Red bank for variations of these with say the Tubescreamer and DS1 stomp just in case.

Anyone use the 60s Thrift/Silvertone model? I have one more Amber slot to fill and can’t decide if I should stick this there or the HiWatt. This is exactly why I need to simplify… too many choices.

Nice looking guitar! I always did like the look of a black Strat w/white pick guard. A very classic, timeless look!

I did some playing around with that Silvertone model, and loved it. An interesting tone, and a great addition to these amps. Of course, I also loved the Hi-Watt, so I'm likely not a big help to you! lol.

I tried these out using a Squier VM Jazzmaster, and an Epi WildKat. Both guitars really sounded good with the silvertone! They both have very distinct voices that were complimented by the Silvertone. Anyhow, that would be a good choice to add for something different. Very vintagey sounding.
