I have 2 banks for each guitar. The first bank uses cab simulation for low volume playing, and the second bank has cab sims off for high volume playing.

Then for each guitar I selected a clean, a crunch and a distortion amp. 0-3 are for the clean amp, 4-6 for the crunch amp and 7-9 for the distortion amp. I use 0 for clean chorus, then for each 3 presets and for each of the three amps I set to low, mid and high gain. Finally I set Q1-Q3 for the low gain setting for each amp.

This way I can use the Q1-Q3 to jump to the amp I want and step up to the gain level that feels good for the situation. Getting to the clean chorus requires Q1 then step down.

If I switch guitars I have to reset Q1-3. Not a problem.

I also have to do a bit of stomping to turn effects on and off.

I pretty quickly saved my own patches over a lot of the default patches that I disliked (mostly overwriting the metal stuff). For that reason, my presets are all over the place and in no particular order. I purchased the 4-button foot switch, which helped quite a bit since has a mode to access the presets by jumping by banks of 10. Plus, it provided an LED remote of the tuner function, which was really needed when I was using a tilted amp stand and couldn't easily see the LCD. I should probably try to organize them better, but I've gotten used to them, and like many of you, I find that I only use a select few.

I have the Mustang III v1 and did gig with it for a few years, if you can call it that (it was a church band, but we played some other venues). I now only use it for recording, so the order of the presets doesn't really matter. Every now and then I'll record something using one of the remaining factory presets, but for the most part, I stick to my own.

Here is my last recording of 2014 that was created using the Mustang III's USB interface with a 2011 American Deluxe Strat. The rhythm track used a 65 Twin Reverb patch that I customized and the lead used a 65 Deluxe that I tweaked to my tastes:

I personally don't use any of the presets that came with the amp. I've either found better ones that I downloaded from the FUSE site or developed them myself from scratch.

As for how I keep them organized, presets 00 - 09 contain presets I consider as clean, presets 10 - 19 are crunchy style presets, 20 - 29 are heavier rock style presets, and 30 - 39 are special presets that don't fit cleanly into those categories. Prior to gigs, once we have the set list developed I copy the presets I'll be using from the "library" of presets in 00 - 39 into the sequence of preset starting at 40. Therefore the first song for the gig will be 40, the second is 41, and so on. I use both a 2-button and 4-button switch. The 2-button is used to sequentially move through the presets and the 4-button is simply used for tuning and effects. This keeps things organized for my poor ol' brain.. ;)

The Mustangs are great amps and it keeps it fun and that's what's most important.]

Yes, this amp is fun. For me its been great for learning about effects and various amps as side show to learning the guitar.

To try to answer your original question, here's a link to the fender list of presets for the Mustang III v.2: http://support.fender.com/manuals/guita ... g3_v.2.pdf

100 presets is way too many for me! I am concentrating on refining a few amp models and have saved them to the first preset numbers. My Mustang turns on to clean 65 Twin.

KISS!

Regarding the "fun" factor, I was only onboard halfway for a modeling amp, really only getting it because I could afford it in the moment and not real Twin... now I'm over it! Was in GS over the weekend and played a real Twin for a while and damn! it sounded so much like my Mustang... all aesthetic snobbery aside, not feeling like a second class citizen any longer! :)

These amps are amazing ..modern technology that is employed here is incredible ...you can have the best of the 65 Twin and some with all the parameters and adjustments. I have two fantastic fender tube amps ...I can honestly say that my Mustang 4 is still king Winnie of the court!

I just picked up an M3, last week. This past weekend, I used Speed Shop to reorganize them with a few downloaded patches. I put each "basic" amp, clean, at positions 00-16, and then grouped the rest by amp type. It's pretty fast to find what I'm looking for. Using Speed Shop, it'll be pretty easy to add new patches and keep the system organized.

Me, I get in a big mess - I save far too many tone tweaks and then name them with one letter changed. But of course the next week I have no idea what's what.
100 is too many - 32 might force me to have some discipline!

My Peavey has at least 200. I use 3 or 4.

After tweaking downloaded presets from Fuse, keeping other presets that came with my Mustang IV, and adding my own, I am ready to organize my presets. Here's my plan:

1) First I made 3 spreadsheets. The first lists the original Mustang presets, general description, what genre(s) I would use them for (or what band/artist/song is related), and whether I would keep, tweak, or replace them.

Tip: Make sure to test each preset on all guitar settings. You wouldn't want to remove a preset sound you overlooked.

2) After reviewing the downloads from Fuse, I made a similar spreadsheet to the first, listing only Fuse downloaded presets.

3)Now it would be good to organize your final choices on a similar spreadsheet. You may want to add notes or other info alongside each preset. (Maybe pickup choice for a specific tone or to give you the intended preset sound.)(Switch position may be added to preset title if desired).

Note: I keep the basic amp presets where they originate. I also leave some blank presets prior to the basic amps for future manageability.

4) Group the presets by groups of 10/20/30 etc. What kind of group is your choice. For me . . . it will likely be genre. I will leave a blank preset between groups (such as 0, 9, 19, 29 etc.)(I don't want the possibility of one genre kicking into another blah blah).

5) For added pedal control, depending on your equipment and needs, you could store your presets with a clean version followed by a dirty version (example: make preset 1 clean, make preset 2 and/or more related to 1 but dirty with variables to your liking).

I'm not finished this yet, and I have the 2, 4, and Express foot pedals so others may or may not find this setup useable. EFX with pedals is a personal choice and variable, of course, and could present more or less preset availability.

Separating clean from dirty into their individual group is one way, but it will be easy enough to locate relevant clean and dirty presets this way as well. Using odd number presets for clean and even for dirty could be a method. It may be easier to match corresponding levels within a group such as this rather than all over the map. It might even be easy to compare and replace desired presets in groupings such as this. Simply a choice, however, as other methods mentioned have their benefits and disadvantages.

The one quirk about this method is deciding if a preset fits one or several genres. But, even that can be addressed.

After all . . . what genre is cowboy rap?
