I would like to use the balanced XLR outs on my Mustang head to go into my recording interface ....I will monitor everything from this interface .....Do I still need to hook up speakers to my speaker outs or can I leave them unplugged without causing any damage ......I'm not familiar with Solid State gear when unpluggging speakers , but I know I will be blowing transformers in a tube rig if I do .....Thanks , Jim

I don't know about the V's transformer under zero load...but the V has a headphone jack so plugging in some headphones would deal with it safely.

Thanks for the reply .....So you are saying the plugging in the headphones will kill any power going to the speakers and allow for a safe load ? ...Thanks, JIm

Sounds to me like perhaps Fender would add a simple Speaker On/Off switch rather than having to input a set of phones to kill power to the speakers ...?????

This has been asked and answered many times before on this forum. In brief, yes you can run the Mustang V head safely with no speakers connected. Fender themselves have even confirmed that in this forum.

Of course, if this is your main way of using the Mustang, a Mustang Floor may be a better option than the amp head.
