Hi to all:-)

I'm new and proud owner of Mustang III v2 amplifier.

I'm satisfied with quality and clean sound, but...

When I try to add some drive (GrenBox or Overdrive) sound become muddy, not enough "space" in sound, with lack of high tones.

I try everything, but, it's always the same - muddy, dirty, not useable guitar sound.
Guitar is LP like, SD pickups.

What I'm doing wrong ?
Because I know I'm doing something wrong, just don't konw what :-)

Before Mustang, I was playing with Fender Frontman 212R (same guitar) , sound was brilliant, and I want to recreate this sound with Mustang:-)

Sound what I want to create is Derek Trucks sound like:-)

So any help, any advice will be more then welcome:-)
Also, any advice how can I setup tone controls (Low, Treble, Mid's) , because I have feeling taht controls works a little different as usual (or just in my mind ? )

With best regards from Croatia:-)

Here are a bunch of things you can try:

1) Each overdrive effect has various controls including tone and/or EQ controls. Adjust the tone/EQ of the overdrive effect. (Push the control wheel one or more times to access the overdrive effect's controls)

2) There are many other overdrive effects available on the Mustang III v2 in addition to the greenbox and overdrive. Try some of the other overdrive options.

3) Though the Fender Fuse software you can position the overdrive effect either before or after the preamp. Try your overdrives in both positions.

4) Don't use overdrive but instead pick an amp that overdrives itself well. Try the different amp models and crank up the Gain control. Some of the amp models provide a great overdriven tone without even using an overdrive effect.

And don't forget that once you get close to what you want you can do some final EQ tweaking on the amp as well.

Good suggestions from mcarrollmust!! You might try out the Super Sonic or 80's British or some of those others that have OD in the amp model and don't require a pedal. If you haven't downloaded the Fuse software, you might want to do that and experiment with it. It gives an excellent visual representation of your amp model and where the effects are in your signal chain. Good luck! You're gonna love the MIII once you get the little details figured out :)

I was just playing around with one of these yesterday. ( Mine is V1) What they^^ said!

I happen to like the 90's Metal model. You can gain it up very nicely w/o going into over the top distortion territory. Try the Liquid Solo preset. That uses 90's metal, has no stomp fx at all, and sounds ANYTHING but muddy. In fact, it's bright, and hot sounding. Fair warning- it can be addictive-the feedback wails you can get are awesome!

One other option is the Black Box distortion stomp. I believe it's a RAT. Gave that a test run yesterday, also, and really liked the sound. Not muddy either.

Mostly, just keep trying things out. It does take some doing to really master crafting tones on this amp, but it's a fun and worthwhile journey!

What amp model are you using? What are ALL the settings for this amp model (both screens of settings on the LCD display)?

What are the exact settings you're using for the overdrive effect? Do you have any other effects enabled? If so, turn them off while troubleshooting the problem you're having with overdrive - or if they're essential to demonstrating the problem, please list here exactly what effects and their settings.

@mcarrollmust , @scott-uk

Thank You for good advices:-)

Well, I try following steps:

Default amp - Studio preamp, put down bass and mids, trebles litle bit up,
sound OK.
Add overdrive with default parameters, sound dissater.
Playing with all params - level, tone, gain, high, low, mids - sound was terrible no matter what I'm doing.

Then I try Fender Sonic as default amp without overdrive - result was MUCH better, too many basses, but, anyway, sound was actually GOOD:-)

I don't understand purpose of a second gain knob...
And crunch sound is little "boxy", how can I fixed up ?
What is relation between 2 gain knobs ?
First is definetly gain control, but what is second, what function have second gain knob ?

Then I buy Mooer Green Mile and - voila :-)
I solve my problem:-)
But, anyway, I can't figure why is overdrive/crunch sound so muddy, no matter what I doing with controls ?
Once again, clean sound is PERFECT, so controls obviously working:-)
I want use just my amp, without external pedals...

Maybe someone can explain to me what tone control I have to cut to "clear" sound, I think MIDs, but, without MIDs sound is "flat".

So, any further help will be more than welcome:-)

Once again, thnk You good people for quick answers and support:-)

With best regards!

The real Super-Sonic amps have two cascaded gain stages, with two gain knobs. Check the documentation for the real Super-Sonic to understand what these do. The Mustang is just modelling the real amp.
