Hi,

At the moment i want to record from the USB connection on my Mustang V. I've connected my phone on the the 1/8" AUX input for the backingtrack and want it to be recorded together with my guitar. The point is that i only hear my guitar thru the USB connection. I'v searched the forum if it is normal that the AUX input isn't recorded but i couldn't find anything about it.

If this is normal, how can i work around this? I really want to record directly from my amp so i can use headphones when playing :)

What you've discovered is correct: the AUX input to the Mustang isn't included in the USB audio output. The AUX input is just for playing a backing track through the amp's loudspeaker - the AUX sound is mixed with the signal just prior to the power amp, after the USB output.

It sounds as though what you want to do is listen to the amp through headphones, and hear both the guitar and the backing track - while simultaneously recording both the guitar and backing track to the PC.

Here's what you could do to achieve that:
- Take the output from your phone (or any other device playing the backing track) into a 'splitter' (eg Boss LS-2) - this gives you two outputs. Note this isn't just splitting the cable into two plugs, a proper splitter has two unity-gain pre-amps to isolate the signal to each output, etc.

- Plug one output from the splitter into your amp's AUX input

- Plug the other output fro the splitter into the line-in socket on your PC

- Configure your recording software to use both the USB and line-in sockets as inputs for recording. Presumably it will let you record the two inputs to separate tracks, which is better actually than if you'd just done it all over USB to one track. You'll be able to change the volume of the guitar in the mix, apply other effects, etc.

Or an alternative to the above is to record your backing track to the PC on its own first. Then, playback that track on the PC, with the PC's line-out connected to the amp's AUX input. Your DAW should let you simultaneously record a new track (from your guitar via the USB input) while playing back the pre-recorded backing track.

For both the above, I don't know whether any latency on any of the PC inputs/outputs will adversely affect this. If you do find that one of your tracks is slightly 'behind' the other, your recording software should have an option to re-align the tracks with each other, so this isn't a show-stopper.
