I want to record my mustang 3 v2 but my budget is kinda low and the usb recording is quite different from what you hear coming out the speaker, so my options are:

-Behringer C-1u, a condenser mic with usb, i know it's now that great but at least in this video sounds ok https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mrah7cg ... Q&index=15

-An audio interface and use the XRL outputs ?

-The standard sm57 and the interface, way out of my budget

I haven't tried the Fender asio drivers, but my Presonus 44VSL has a roundtrip latency of 7.3 in Sonar X3 at 24bit 48khz 128 buffers. It won't change the sound of the amp, but it sure does help with the feel if your latency is low. The 22VSL is usb powered and $99.

Amp's aux-out or fx-send into your PC's line-in or mic-in socket.

Zero equipment cost, all you need is a cable with the right plugs on each end.

If you don't like the digital audio, why do you think you'll like the digital audio, converted to analogue, then converted back to digital again? The XLR outputs are also not "what you hear coming out the speaker." Whereas this route may work for you, I'd suggest you try and hear what this sounds like before spending money on equipment.

And, my zero-cost suggestion above is no worse than this: it's taking the digital audio, turning it into analogue then turning back into digital again. There are two key differences: losses/interference in an unbalanced vs balanced cable; differences between the ADC on your PC's soundcard and the ADC in a separate audio interface. I haven't done a comparison myself, but I suspect that there will be very little if any audible difference between the two options (assuming reasonable cable lengths, good quality cables, and no noise sources unnecessarily close to the cables, etc).

Well the usb recording sounds like when I'm using the amp thru headphones it's not a bad thing but you have to set your presets for either speaker or headphones
Im just curious about the usb mic, could be an option or should I look forward the shure sm57 and some m audio or presonus?

My experience with modeling is you have to adjust the preset anytime you change anything. Headphones, studio monitors, PA system, into an amp, but once you have your presets your all set.

Agree. Every output is different.

If you don't like the direct Mustang-USB-to-PC-USB option, I'd still suggest trying the zero-cost option I proposed above before spending money on other equipment, particularly if you're concerned about budget. You lose nothing by trying it, and it may give you the sound you want.

Just a thought, when you playback a USB recording, what amp/speakers do you use? If it's PC speakers or even a hi-fi amp and speakers connected to your PC's line-out, then these will all colour the sound. It could be that your USB recording is perfect, but is being spoilt during playback. As a test, if you haven't already done this, take your PC's line-out to the aux-in (or fx-return) on your Mustang, and listen to your recording through your guitar amp's speaker, which is better-tuned for reproducing guitar tones than ordinary speakers.

The best place to start, under this circumstance, is adjusting the USB gain under the Advanced Amp option in Fuse. (You can navigate to it from the amp, but Fuse is easier.)

Upping the USB gain a tad has led to some very satisfying recordings.

Download Audacity. It's a free recording program that plays well with Mustangs. Also I find it very easy compared to other programs like Cubase or Ableton.

USB out and XLR out are to my ears identical.
I've not miced the Mustang yet but it will be a recording of what you hear out of the speaker.
Of course you then have to deal with mic placement and room noise, but I intend to try some time.

.. I should add I find the USB or XLR fine for recording - yes it loses a bit of presence and has a sound I can identify as Mustang, but once it's mixed with anything else it's fine - it's fine on its own as well..
Then again I've yet to mic it to see if that gets me somewhere else.

three (cheap) thing you can try:

-take the audio from the XLR outs / fx-send to your computer the analog direct way BUT at the same time, connect headphones to the mustang. The fact of connecting headphones changes the line-out sound too... and probably in a way you will like. Give it a try.

-get a cheap and flat response dynamic mic and mic your Mustang. I normally use a cheap Peavey mic that costed me 25$ and is marvellous.

-get a 25$ Behringer 7 band EQ pedal, connect it between the Mustang FX-send and your PC, and try different combinations of an "inverted V", I got pretty close to the mustang speaker response using this method

I usually only mic the speaker of my Mustang III (v1) when I'm using an over-driven amp model, which is what I usually use with my Les Paul (usually a customized patch using the British 80s amp model). I've used the USB interface for this combination in the past, but it came across as being a bit on the shrill side.

I've tried several methods of recording with the Mustang III. In this example, I used a TASCAM DP-006 Pocketstudio to record everything (except the drums, which were loops created using Adobe Audition Loopology):
https://soundcloud.com/josephellis-1/stratolesenbacker

For the rhythm track, I plugged the Mustang's 1/4" effects out jack directly into one of the TASCAM's 1/4" inputs. I used my Strat for that track and doubled it by recording it twice (i.e., 2 separate performances). For the lead, I used my Les Paul with one of my customized patches using the British 80s model. For that track, I put the TASCAM on a short tripod in front of the amp and recorded through the unit's internal condenser mics. I recorded the bass track in a similar manner (TASCAM internal mics) using a Rickenbacker 4003 through a Fender Rumble 75 amp.

When I'm using a clean amp model, I usually prefer the sound of the USB interface - especially if I'm using any of the stereo effects. My latest song was recorded direct using the Mustang's USB interface for the guitars and a Zoom B3 Bass Effects & Amp Simulator for the drums and bass:
https://soundcloud.com/josephellis-1/unforeseen

I used the Les Paul for the rhythm track using a customized patch with the British 60s (Vox) amp model. The lead track features my Strat and a '65 Deluxe amp model with some triangle chorus, stereo filter delay and '65 Fender Spring Reverb.

Basically, I try lots of methods and then just use whichever sounds the best to my ears. No harm in trying lots of options.

As far as miking an amp goes, there is a lot of information on which mics to try and where to place them in relation to the speaker. Recording dead center of the speaker sounds different from recording near the speaker's edge. Here is just one article I found on the subject:
