1. To save a preset you must first modify an existing preset
2. Press the SAVE button. ...
3. Turn the PRESET knob to select a preset to overwrite.
=====================.
These are the instructions on how to Save a preset on the Mustang II. My question is, why would step 3 be necessary? If you're modifying a red or green preset, wouldn't you already be there, to hear how it sounds before you begin modifying it? Then you just press Save again, while staying on the same preset.

It seems step 3 is necessary only when you've started with an Orange preset.

You're correct, step 3 is optional. If you're saving a preset over itself, press SAVE (step 2) then press SAVE again (step 4 in the manual).

You only need step 3 if you want to write the new preset to a different position.
