Does anyone know if there is an audio interface available with both USB in and out? Basically this would solve ANY issues with using the USB out of the Mustang amp for recording therefore you should have stereo effects etc... Does this sound right?

What issues are you thinking of? In what way would a separate USB interface solve these?

I've never thought about this before. Is the Mustang's USB audio output mono or stereo? If it is only mono, how is an external USB interface going to change this? (other than by using the Mustang's various line-out options to an analogue input on the autio interface, but I don't think that's what you're proposing?)

Not quite sure what you're thinking of; do you mean Mustang USB out to Audio Interface USB in, then interface's USB out to PC's USB in?

Yes exactly... I don't honestly know if the USB is stereo or not... but the only USB issue I have ahd has been trying to use the USB out of the Mustang to record with Sony Acid 8.. I can use the line out or the headphone out but the sound quality just isn't very good...

USB on mustang is unidirectional for recording is stereo.

The sound issues you talk about when using the aux in are most probably related to the mustang speaker than aux-port istelf (mustang speaker is notably bad for music reproduction, no bass and no treble)

Thanks for clarifying.

What issue, specifically, do you have using the Mustang's USB audio? I'm trying to understand what exactly is the problem. I don't see how adding another audio interface to the chain would change anything.

Are you saying, for example, that you can't get Acid8 to detect the Mustang's USB audio? If so, do you have another USB audio interface and can Acid8 pick-up audio from that (using a different source, not the Mustang's USB output)? Have you installed the ASIO driver necessary to use the Mustang's USB audio? Have you tried any other DAWs to see if they work with the Mustang's USB?

Right now I am using an IK Stealth Plug, which unfortunately is mono... I plug that into the Line out of the mustang and the USB of my PC... I can use the USB of the mustang into my PC but I get latency issues... I have tried it with the Abelton software as well and had some latency as well... basically the issue is Sony Acid not recognising the amp... and yes I have downloaded the ASIO4All etc and still have issues... I really believe the entire problem is Sony but they don't seem to want to support Acid 8 anymore since it is a few years old... what I was hoping to do is plug the USB from the mustang into an interface and plug that into my PC... The mustang sounds AMAZING when I plug headphones into it and I was hoping to get that same quality of sound into my PC... I honestly don't know if the sound would be as good thru the USB I am just spit-balling... I have tried going from the headphone out into the Stealth plug but it crackles etc and I would really love to just do away with the Stealth altogether... anyway... thank you for the responses and for having patience with this VERY novice home recorder lol.... I absolutely LOVE my mustang amp!! My only gripe at all with the amp is that I wish I had known they were releasing the V2 before I bought my V1... I missed it by two months ....

Not sure which socket you mean by "line out of the Mustang" - can you clarify? If you're expecting stereo from the Mustang, I assume you're using either: the headphone output; or the stereo fx-send of a Mustang 4 or 5; or you're using the XLR outputs?

Why not forget the IK Stealth Plug, and connect your (stereo, analogue) cable from your Mustang's "line out" to the line-in or mic-in on your PC's sound card? At least see whether that gives you acceptable quality before spending money on other equipment. You may be pleasantly surprised.

As for latency and USB: first, all USB audio has some latency. I know nothing about Acid8 so can't comment on how much that is adding to it. Why not try with the (free) Ableton DAW you get with your Mustang, or another freeware DAW eg audacity. Even if they aren't the software you ultimately want to use, for zero-cost you can narrow down where the problem lies, and thus make a better decision on what you need to buy.

Even if you can find a USB-in-USB-out audio interface, how do you know that will have any less latency? How do you know its USB-in will even have a compatible driver to interface with the Mustang's USB-out? To me this seems an over-complicated and risky route, when you don't even know yet this will solve the problem, because you don't know yet the source of the problem. Try some simpler options (eg the suggestions above) first.

Hi eyezomb,

I wanted to chime in here and offer that you may want to experiment a bit further with your buffer (or latency) setting in Ableton Live to see if you can optimize the latency you are hearing with the input into Live form your Fender® Mustang™. We have an updated Fender Universal ASIO driver which I would recommend you use (assuming that you are using a 64 bit PC). Further, the USB output on your amp will output data in stereo. Please let me know if I can assist further.

Best Regards,

Alan

Hi Alan; one issue is the OP isn't using Ableton - I suggested in an earlier reply they do so (if only to compare latency etc with the Acid8 DAW they're currently using), at which point your suggestion above is exactly the thing to try.

I note the OP says they are using ASIO4ALL. I've read elsewhere on this forum that the Fender driver is just a repackaged version of ASIO4ALL? But if it's different, then it would certainly be worth the OP trying this latest Fender driver to see if that helps.

Hi scott-uk,

Thanks for chiming in. I believe that eyezomb indicated that he had tried Live. At any rate, other ASIO compliant audio software should offer basically the same functionality and setup in regard to the audio driver. And with regard to the Fender® Universal vs. ASIO4ALL, I know that there has been much discussion about it on these Forums. At the end of the day, either should function. The Fender Driver is specifically tailored for our products.

Best Regards,

Alan

Thank you for the advice... haven't had a chance to try much last week as my PC was hit by a pretty nasty virus... specifically the Powelik Virus.. watch out its nasty and takes over your CPU.. hoping to experiment more this week once everything is back to normal.

I can't seem to get the ASIO to install properly... keeps saying I need to associate it with something in my defaults but I can't figure out what or how to do it... Right now there is MAJOR latency with Abelton no matter what I do

Hi eyezomb,

Please contact us directly. We are happy to assist you in getting your ASIO driver installed and set up. You should not have to associate your ASIO driver with any program specifically. You should be able to run the installation of the driver, then launch your audio software such as Ableton Live. Then once you have Live open, you should be able to access the driver inside Live's audio preferences window.

At any rate, please feel free to contact us for further assistance.

Best Regards,

Alan
