If you are only using one effect, it should still matter where you place the effect.
However, with 63 reverb, I can't tell a difference if it's placed prior to the amp or after the amp.

Why is this? What's the difference when the effect turns into a stomp box?

There's no massive difference with reverb before or after especially when going in to a clean amp setting.

If you have the amp overdriving then moving something before/after should make a more noticeable change.
If there is more than one effect, order and placement should make more difference - you just have to try it and use your ears. If you like it, it's good.

It's tradition that stomp and modulation go before and reverb and delays go after, but the compresser can work well before or after.

yea, trial and error and what you're personal setup works best for you.. so play around

a traditional tub amp w/a pedal board.
Delays will usually be smoother after the pre-amp, so to my ears, they work better off the loop

with the mustangs, I honestly have not heard a big difference.

With Compressors I think they are best if always 1st in the path, if you add them LAST, funky things can happen with delay decays, and some modulation effects in my experience

A note on Compression...
If you're using a High Gain model and want a "Boost" using compression... Place it after the amp

I've made some interesting discoveries inre pedals with this amp.

This is with actual physical pedals, I've never bothered using Fuse, so can't comment on fiddling around with the virtual signal chain.

Some pedals work best at instrument level. Meaning in front of the amp. To my ears, MXR's Carbon Copy Analog Delay is an exception to the rule of thumb above. I think it sounds better in front of the amp.

Others, TC Electronics especially, sound better when run at line level- in the fx loop.

For ex: My Corona Chorus did not sound particularly good, going into the front of my SC X2- which has no loop. In the Mustang's loop, different story entirely- I greatly prefer it to the included chorus effects.

EHX's Small Clone chorus, sounds great running into either amp's main input.

I couldn't begin to tell you WHY all the above is, just that that is what my ears tell me.

Conventional wisdom is a good starting point, but don't let it get in the way of trying things that could turn out to be just what you want.

Okej, the common rule is this:

Distortion/Overdriver/Compressor->Amp->(FX-loop)Reverb,Delay,Modulation-effects->Poweramp

Though sometimes I prefer a chorus or delay before the amp. Rules are made to be broken!
