I wanted to ask, is there any way to build a Footswitch for a Mustang I V.2 Amp (that I have) rather than buying one? It's just that I live in Israel and only the Amp is sold there but not its Footswitch, and I don't want to buy it from Amazon plus it's a good opportunity to build something easy as a beginning because I want to build some Effect Pedals in the future.

Hi, I have built one from the lamp switch (just simple half dollar on/off foot switch http://www.thelightworks.net/966-large/foot-switch-black-for-2-or-3-core-flex-2a-max.jpg) and spare mono jack cable. And it works eventhough my skills in electricity field are limited to changing light bulps!!!
Footswitch in Mustang I/II works on on/off basis....so, plugin in mono jack cable into FS socket, cross its wires (to close the circuit) and 1st preset will be set. Take the wires apart and 2nd preset will be set. Cross them again and 1st preset is on again....
So just connect these wires from mono jack to your lamp switch (so one step will connect them, second step will unconnect them) and you are done.
T.

Would a Footswitch like that work for my Mustang I V.2?

It's just a footswitch for a different type of Amp (actually it's not even Fender), I thought that it would fit the description of "A simple on/off toggle footswitch", but I'm not sure.

Any latching footswitch (as distinct from non-latching or momentary action footswitches) will work. "Latching" means you press it once to close the circuit, then press it again to open the circuit. Check the manufacturers' specs to confirm the type of footswitch.

A footswitch with an LED (as the diagram in the previous reply seems to have) may not work - it's drawing a slight current and presenting a load, which may confuse the amp circuitry that's expecting a simple open/close circuit.

You mean like a Boss FS-5L?

Hmmm...

The Boss/Roland website says "FS-5L is a latch-type footswitch with an LED to indicate status"

I guess you've already read that, and both important parts (latching and LED) are covered in earlier replies; not sure what new question you're asking? If you already have one of these pedals, you can try it without harm. If it works, great; at worst it won't work (the amp won't recognise you've pressed the switch) because of the LED*. If you're thinking of buying one, I would be cautious for that reason.

I don't know how music stores in Israel compare to UK, but you could try just going into a store and asking if they have anything suitable. Music shops in UK usually have a 'parts bin' containing this type of thing, items leftover from demo stock, returns, etc. Maybe you can find a store near you that has something?

* It all depends what load resistors (and maybe other components) are in the switch with the LED, versus the componentry in the amp, and how exactly the amp detects the closed footswitch circuit. For example, if the amp is expecting to see the full voltage drop across its own internal resistor/sensor, or see a certain minimum current flow, then the presence of a load in the external circuit (such as the LED circuit in the switch will have) may affect that and prevent the amp detecting the switch closure.

I asked that question to be sure - better ask dumb questions before buying something than after and then finding out your'e wrong

A lot of times I'd get an idea to build something simple, like the foot switch in question, and usually the cost of buying the single (as opposed to, say, a hundred of them) components (jack, enclosure, rubber foot pads, LED, LED mount, the switch, a capacitor, a resistor, hookup wire) plus shipping came to considerably more than an off-the-shelf model.
If you have access to a metal shop (brake, shear, drill press or punch), scrap sheet metal, and a lot of junk parts for the switch and LED, then it would be worthwhile.

A deluxe version would additionally use a double-throw single-pole switch, power ON/OFF slide switch, a battery compartment, and current-limiting resistor, so that the preset switching contacts are totally isolated from the LED indicator.
