So, here is the scenario of my last 5 years concerning pedals and tone. I play twice a week live to a crowd of 500+, after taxes. lol

2009: Peavey Vlave King 212 100 watt, analog pedal board galore.
(Couldn't pull the lead tones no matter what I tried. Couldn't take volume knob above 2 on amp.)

2010: Pod HD500 direct to house.
(Sterile, digital, floor monitors could never give me the volume needed.)

2011: Back to Peavey for its fatness and 212 cab monitor.

2012: Fender Mustang Floor
(Blew my Pod Hd500 out of the water for the tones I enjoy. Fender cleans, the Richie Kotzen type lead tones. However, could never get my ears around the digital thinner sound of multi effects, however I sold all my analog pedals for my tube amp! Musfloor is my main rig for this year. I put up wih modeling for a little longer. Pod hd500 goes on ebay.)

2013: Blackstar 5rh head into Peavey Valve King 212 cabinet only and pedals
( I break down and spend another 1500$ to restock an analog pedalboard so I can have the tube warmth and fatness my ears love. Musfloor goes into office to play through headphones for practice. I also buy a Tech 21 Power Engine 60 for a office monitor for Musfloor)

2014: Epiphany! a friend tell ms about the Presonus Tube Pre v2 for my microphone channel to arm and lightly compress the vocal. I quickly look at connectors, and reviews, and run into my office and connect it my mustang floor pedal then pedal into Power engine 60 which also has an eminence cannabis rex peaked changeout I did. FOLKS, FINALLY! FINALLY WHAT IVE HEARD IN MY HEAD AND COULDNT BRING TO REALITY! I love the range that multi effects provide for the type of playing I do, but just needed the cup of cocoa and a blanket tubes provide for my soul! Nomsayn!? I have never heard so many people compliment my tone as they do now. I run one side of the musfloor direct to house through the snake for that produces a little more treble, and the other side through The power engine 60 mic'd with a sm58 off axis. Dual amp tube warmth and I can port it all in one trip!

Summary: Fender and PRESONUS Tube Pre V2 a match made in Tonal heaven!

Congratulations on finally finding the perfect setup for your tone, I'm sure it sounds fantastic.

I am trying to decide between a Mustang IV or a Mustang Floor once a new MF is released (not having parity between the Floor and v.2 Mustangs is a deal killer right now on the Floor unit)

The Mustang IV is easy, it is what it is.

If I choose the Floor I intend to go out from the Left and Right outputs to two amplifiers which I'm assuming will give me a stereo output from the Floor? This configuration will also give me the ability to sit a fair distance away (length of the 1/4 inch cables) from the amplifiers and still allow me to configure settings on the Floor via the onboard controls and by connecting a laptop to the Floor unit via USB to run the Fuse software for realtime modifications.

I just can't find the amplifiers to fit the bill for the Floor setup. I want solid state amps with a good clean channel. I'm half considering building my own cabinets with a single Celestion vintage 30 but don't know what I would use to power them.

Do you know of any amplifiers that would do what I'm looking to do?

Correct. Although whether this is useful depends whether you are using any of the stereo effects.

You can do this with the Mustang amps too - have the laptop beside you and make 'live' changes to the amp settings, with the amp some distance away (limited by the length of your USB cable - other topics have debated what a reliable max length is; personally I've used 4 metres without issue).

Quite a few people seem to use and like Tech 21 Power Engines.

Another option would be to buy a pair of Mustang 3 amps, and connect your M-Floor output to their fx-return sockets, just to use their power amp and speaker. It may sound an odd idea, but in terms of value for money, the Mustang 3 gives you a good, clean power amp, with a speaker suitably voiced for guitar amplification.

Any solid-state guitar amp with a completely 'clean' signal path (or an fx-return socket so you can bypass any tone shaping and just go direct to the power amp stage) would suffice.

This is I agree tricky. You could wait for ever for a manufacturer to release a new product, or product version, that does what you want. Fender, like most companies, don't pre-announce new products or release information on what's coming next. At some point you have to make a decision on what's in the shops today.

There is nothing wrong with the current Mustang Floor. It just lacks the extra amp models and effects of the V2 amps. Personally, I think those are 'icing on the cake' rather than must-haves; the current model has plenty of stuff to keep you busy. (There are of course plenty more wishlist-changes they could make to the Mustang Floor in a new version that would make it a lot more desirable, but that doesn't seem to be relevant to your buying decision?)

A "floor fx unit with stereo active monitors" is quite a different proposition to "2x12 combo" (essentially the two scenarios you describe). What will you be doing with them, how do you want to use them? I'd suggest base your buying decision on which permutation better fits your usage, than on a feature comparison of the DSP in each.

I am running my Musfloor through a TECH 21 Power Engine 60 with Eminence Cannabis Rex speaker changeout mic'd with an SM58. Tone is excellent, especially through the Presonus Tube pre

I tried to go the cheaper route and bought an Art Tube Pre and it was horrible no matter what config I set it at. I'm pretty happy with my tone now though since I have been putting stuff in the post area in FUSE. No harm no foul as the Art Tube pre sounds fantastic for vocals and bass guitar.

Taste in tone/sound is purly subjective to each player. None the less, I'm just amazed when someone says that they can't find the sound from a Mustang 4 with its 212 Celestion speakers and all those on board effects and parameters for tweaking each effect. I have never played the LA forum or Madison Square Garden or even the Royal Albert Hall in London but this amp is Fawking amazing for the beer joints otherwise.

The way I look at it, instead of obsessing over tone I figure I'd be better off obsessing over practicing and playing the guitar. No change in tone will ever make me a better guitarist.

DIY guys could also try their Matsumin Valvecaster set to a low or minimal gain to help "smooth" out the digital nature of the beast.

Not familiar with the Matsumin but I use a little tube preamp between guitar and modeling amp. Just a little gain gives me the warmth and richness I was missing by going digital. Still have all the digital effects but a fatter tube tone. Mine was $49 has 1 tube and fits in a gig bag pocket. Huge improvement over straight digital.

As a long time (early 70's) tube amp snob i'm prrtty hard to please. No, REALLY hard to please. Thats why I'm very puzzled by this thread. I'm supposed to apparently hear the "digital nature of the beast" ? Honestly, the whole reason i $hitcanned my tube amps in favor of the mustang was that there Is no digitalness in the tone or feel of this amp. No doubt it's not as good as a tube amp in some models/settings. For example i don't find the fender cleans to sound or feel real close to a fender, but they don't sound digital. True, you have to FIND the models and settings that really bring the goods with the mustang. But even with those i find mediocre, i just don't hear or feel this "digital nature" thats being talked about here ! Even if some of the models are lousy, so are a lot of tube amps. Lousy doesn't=digital nature. It=lousy !

To me the thing that made me go with the mustang was the total lack or digitalness. It;s the one thing modelers always had till now and why i wouldn't touch them with a 10' pole. The mustang was the first time i found one that had none of that, yet here we are talking about curing it? Oh well...

I use the ART tube preamp with my Peavey Vypyr III. I use very little gain from it though. Doesn't take much to add some fullness and warmth. I try to balance out the gain and the volume controls so that the overall volume is the same as if I didn't have the pre in the chain. Vypyrs don't like active pickups and figured it wouldn't like a preamp either so I go mild on it. Going into a plain SS amp with no "digital tubes" I have to crank the ART pretty high though. Nice little preamp but sometimes hard to find - sometimes hooked up to the keyboards, sometimes an acoustic rig, sometimes a mic. The little thing gets around!
