I want to buy a Logidy EPSI to run in the loop. I will be using different cab impulses loaded in it. I will be disabling the Mustangs cab sims. Will the USB out record the Mustang and EPSI sound direct to disk?

Thanks for any and all help!

I have seen it reported before that on the V1 Mustang amps, the USB output is before the fx-loop. So that would mean no, your EPSI sound would not be sent over USB. But I haven't tested this myself and haven't seen a 100% definitive statement; you can easily test it thus:

First set up USB from amp to PC and check you can detect sound on the PC when you play guitar through the amp. Insert a spare jack plug into the fx-return socket (or the plug on one end of a spare cable, leaving the other end disconnected). You should find the amp speaker is now muted (or maybe a bit of background noise being picked up by the above cable). Check on your PC what sound is now coming over USB: if you still get the guitar sound, then the USB output comes before the fx-loop. If the guitar is now also muted, the USB output is after the fx-loop (in which case you would be able to use the EPSI in the way you want).

On the V2 amps, the USB output comes after the fx-loop, with a couple of subtle nuances. I realise that's not useful to you as you have a V1 amp. But see this topic:

I'm also curious what fundamentally different sounds you want to get from the EPSI that you can't approximate within the amp?

Another way to look at this is that the sort of post-processing of the sound you want to do with the EPSI is better handled in the PC/DAW realm anyway. Just record the amp sound without cab simulation. Then hook-up the EPSI to your PC's sound input and output, and use it to re-record the track. This has the advantage that you can try various different settings of the EPSI, on the same original audio track, until you get the perfect sound.

Scott, thank you so much for your well thought out answer and your time. I am just getting back home and will try this and report back tomorrow.
