Hey folks.
I've seen some posts with people asking about mustang II or III being used as a bass amp, and to that I would say no, But...

What are your thoughts about using the Mustang V head (through a bass cab) as a Bass amp?

Let's assume the impedance and whatnot are all matching.

I can't see it not working. Sure it won't have the push of a 400+w amp, but there's no reason that shouldn't work in a practice setting right?

The biggest deciding factor will be speaker efficiency. High power handling speakers with a high SPL will go a long ways in allowing the amp to pull this off.

High efficiency speakers may give more volume, but they are also harder for an amp to drive (ie sound quality is affected). It's a compromise.

The Fender Bronco is the bass equivalent of the Mustang, if it were me I'd get the dedicated item for the job. Or is it that you already have the Mustang and are asking if it can do dual-role?

Can I ask will an MV roll off the lower frequencies at the amp?
Or is that generally just what happens at the speaker?

Well, all i can say is thats not my experience, certainly not with a 100 wtt amp ! I used EV12L's forever, and i never had that type of result with any amp on down to 30 watts. Certainly shouldn't be an issue with a 100w MIII. But the SPL is also important. That along with a speaker that won't break up when you pound it with lows will help a lot. The biggest issue he's going to face is a weak power supply because a non tube guitar amp will have a wimply PSU which isn't conducive to lots of low end as with a bass.
