Hi all- new member

I am a refugee from the Marshall forum- I have been gigging for a long time with a DSL50 and 4x12.
I started looking at the Mustangs for a portable option that would stop me getting the "turn it down....too loud...." comments from the band.

I used the III for the first time in anger last night, and piped into the PA from the XLR out.

Wow. The little box has blown me away. I was concerned about a couple of things, mainly whether it would keep up with a loud rock covers band. I never got the master past 3.5 :)

The Fender modelled tone qualities are well documented, but used the basic 70's as a starter point for the crunchy classic stuff, and a huge smile appeared on my face.
I've owned and gigged with Marshalls (JVMs/DSL), Boogie (MkV), Rivera, Egnater, Hughes and Kettner, and the Mustang gave me the sound in my head instantly!

On forums, you can find the odd comment from people that they plugged into a Mustang, and it sounded so bad, they immediately dismissed it. I can only assume that they merely hit one of the poorer presets (of which there are a few) and didn't bother to tweak.

I do believe I have a large pedal board, and an even larger 1/2 stack that will be heading the way of the trade in very soon.
The only "downer" for me now is the visual one....it's getting used to having that little box behind you instead of that imposing 4x12. I think that's a compromise worth taking for the convenience and versatility the Mustang has.

Like others have said, I'm hoping a firmware update brings the ability to have 2 stomps at once, and I'm just wrestling with the best way to have a solo boost. Seems at the moment, I'm going to have 2 patches next to one another, with one louder for solos.

In a way, it's a shame that Fender market this thing in the box clearly aimed at younger players..."tons of cools effects" etc.... I wonder how many seasoned players overlook them as a "toy"?

Nice one Fender. I'm looking forward to hanging out here.

Congratulations and welcome to the Forum! One way to keep the appearance of the big stack would be to set the MIII on top of the Marshall speakers. Another way would be to go the MUstang V head and 4 x 12 cab route. No matter how you handle it, I know you're gonna love the Mustangs :)

Same here. Lifelong tube user who's never played thru anything SS or digital that FELT right till the mustang, and I'm still blown away thinking about it. I still have to pinch myself when i realize I'm playing thru a modeler. I have a custom tube amp thats tweaked to kill marshalls and it indeed does. But i plug into it now and then for a reality check and end up ripping the cord out and putting it back into the mustang asap ! It really is that good. Is the tone perfect? No, but theres not one amp on the planets who's tone is because your ear changes minute to minute and ever the greatest tone you've ever played will sound bad at certain times. Same with the mustang, but unlike a regular tube amp if that happens you just choose a different model and you can always find one that works for you at the moment. Mind blowing value. There are lots of boutique pedals that cost as much or more than the mustang. It really shouldn't sound and feel nearly this good. Probably the greatest single piece of gear i have ever purchased since i began playing in the early 70's. i think that says it all. Wish i had one back then !!!

Couldn't agree more. I'm almost embarrassed to tell anyone what it cost. Even Long and Mcquade, where I bought it, gave me a strange look when I told them I was going to gig it.

I'm going to get the EXP pedal, and I'm set.

I have three tube amps (Fender 4x10 deville, Marshall, Gibson Goldtone). I gig mainly with a marshall combo (2x12 w/2x12 cab) along with a pretty hefty pedal train board.

on a whimsy, brought my mustang IV (also have a III) to our last gig. Did the job and then some. (after all, we're mic'd up anyway. so the house gets what it get regardless)

The MIV was excellent and the 2+4 button F. SW. worked a treat.

Plus, this is way easier on the load in/load out!!!

I had a guy walk up to me on our second break and ask "how are you getting THOSE sounds out of a Deville" (it does look like one)

I said "I'm not.. let me show you what it is."
so I did..

"No Way"

"Way"

"Wow"

"Yep"

I think that's one of the best testimonials for this amp. When you get guys than can use their tube amp if we want, but don't find the Mustangs compromise them at all. You're right, theat 4 +2 footswitch set up works a treat.
