I just scored a Mustang ii, and currently trying to figure out Ableton. Is it feasible to play back, and record through the USB? I currently am playing back through the 1/8", and if I change cable to the headphone on amp, and mic in on laptop I can record, but I can not hear any guitar while recording, as the headphone jack mutes the amp. but it does record, and plays back through the amp, through 1/8" after I record it. Thanks for any pointers folks, I am in the dark on it. :?:

You can't play back via the USB, it's strictly out only.
You have to monitor using whatever you have on the PC.. shouldn't be too hard to get that working.

You can definitely record using USB. Search the Fender support website for the keyword "ASIO" which will give you all the instructions. You need to install the ASIO driver and configure Ableton to use it. The Fender support pages have screenshots and a video showing you exactly what to do.

Recording through USB won't mute the amp output, so you can either listen to the amp 'live' while you record, or as markcc notes, you can listen to the output of the recording from the PC. To emphasise, the Mustang sends audio out over USB to the computer; the Mustang can't receive audio over USB.

Thank you kind folks, I tried many of the things mentioned prior to bugging you folks in here. I have watched a video emailed to me from Ableton. I will go back to square one, and try to find the videos on the Fender site, cheers, and thank you.

OK, let me try to explain better, I did a crappy job last time, sorry folks. I have everything recording actually.

I guess my issue is with playback. I have my laptop with a 1/8" patch going from headphone out on laptop to aux in on M ii. I have the M ii going with USB to my laptop.

Ableton will do one thing or the other..,playback or record, but only one at a time. If I want to record, I have to go into hardware, and make appropriate settings.

When I want to playback, I have to go back into hardware, and change everything to playback. Is this feasible, and how?

It would be great if I could just record, and then playback without going into hardware to change settings again.

I will also add, that I did watch all related videos with regard to the subject.

I do have Ableton Live 9, and not 8 which is in the literature though, but I am assuming it is pretty much the same, as it was the default down load.

By the way, I bought this as a package, second hand, less that a year old off of Kijiji. A brand new American Standard Strat, and the M ii for 800 bux, and I am loving it to death, the amp is awesome with all of its effects. I did not even know what I was buying till I started to research when i got home, cuz I was just interested in the Strat, but I got a lovley surprise folks. Cheers!

Have you read the following about how to setup the ASIO driver?:

Record audio from a Fender® FUSE™-compatible amp or device directly into a computer

It describes setting up the Mustang's USB as an input and your sound card as an output so there should be no reason to keep shuffling back and forth in your hardware setup in your DAW.

In other words, you have to setup the ASIO driver separately from the DAW's setup.

And, FYI, the Fender ASIO driver is just a branded version of the ASIO4ALL driver.

Thank you P90, finally chose the right combo in the hardware setup I guess, and it seems to be rockin now. In the instructions, when they brought Amplitude into it, it really confused the heck out of me, because it took me to Authorize, and all of that worked like crap, trying to get numbers to work and such, because of lag etc. I guess. This is a good forum, with good folks, some of us older birds have a hard time more with computers, than anything else I think, being self taught on them has its limitations.

Thank you for all of your assistance folks, been a pleasure, and I like the gear I have here now a lot.

Now, just have to learn how to bring instruments into Ableton, and figure out how to mix stuff on it.
