Hello Fender Mustang community

I do have a mysterious phenomena on my Mustang III V2.

I created 4 patches:
- clean (65 Deluxe Reverb Model)
- crunch (65 Deluxe Reverb Model)
- rock (Super Sonic Model)
- lead (Super Sonic Model)
The patched have increasing sound levels when hearing through the build-in speaker
from the mustang combo III V2 with firmware 2.2.
This is exactly how I wanted and how I programmed the increasing soundlevel.

For clean and crunch I use the Amp "65 Deluxe Reverb model"
For rock and lead the "Super Sonic model"

Everything is fine with the increasing soundlevel by hearing through the Amp-speaker itself.
But using the XLR output direkt to PA-system, the soundlevel from rock and lead patch are much lower than on the Amp speaker.
This means, on stage I have the perfect monitor soundlevel from the amp, for ex. while playing solo I hear the patch lounder than all other patches, but the audience hear the lead patch very low. I tried everything, played with the Mastervolume on supersonic, tried the output boost on utility ....I dont get the XLR output volume the same like on the Amp-speaker.

For every help I will be very glad.
(sorry for my pure english, I hope I could explain myself)

Thank you very much
Best
Steve

In theory, differences in volume between presets, should be the same through both the XLR outputs and the amp's own speaker. I can think of two things that could affect this:

- If the volume differences are slight, they could be more noticeable (ie be exaggerated by) the amp's own power amp and speaker, which by definition adds its own nuances to the sound, compared to the 'pure' output through the XLR.

- If the presets use different cab emulations (which seems likely from your choice of amp models), then be aware that the XLR output uses a different form of the cab emulation, than the amp's own speaker. This is supposed to be purely to get the frequency response (etc) correct for the different types of output - but it wouldn't surprise me if it also affects the volume a little bit.

So suggestions:

- Try using the same cab emulation for all your presets, see if that makes a difference

- Make the difference in volume between the presets a bit larger, so that it's apparent through all the outputs - I'm sure there is a difference through the XLR outputs now, it sounds like it's just not large enough to be audibly noticeable

- Could the PA system be 'squashing' the signal and damping the difference in volume levels between the different presets?

- Adjust the difference in volume between your presets, based on the XLR output. This may mean (if the cab emulation trick doesn't solve this) you then have an exaggerated difference through the amp's speaker, but you may have to live with that

Hi,

another suggestion, if your PA has tone controls for the input you are using for your mustang, then, on the PA:
-lower the treble
-increase the mids
-lower the bass

it will not sound exactly like your mustang speaker but will be very close

Hello Gents

thank you very much for your assistance and thoughts.
I think you are right and the different cabinet simulations are causing the sound level difference.

Maybe for your info here how I "solved" it, or ...let´s say, how I make it "workable".

I now use the Fender 65 Deluxe Reverb an base amp for ALL presets, always with
the same cabinet simulator. I do now create my "dirty sounds" (crunch, rock, lead)
only by using the "Greenbox" Stompbox with different gain settings to get the sound
colored and distorted.

Now the volume and sound level is exactly the way I want and Amp-Speaker and XLR
volume is 100% identically.

Thank again ...
enjoy Fender Mustang
Best wishes from Germany
Steve
