Hey! First of all, Brazilian here, so, sorry about my poor english.

Ok, i'll try to resume: i bought a mustang I (1) amp from USA, my GF did it for me while on vacation. i used it for, i think, 1 and a half year and it works great. so, one day, i plug it on 220 (it is 110, US voltage. ya?). Ok, i thought it was no biggie, just bought another fuse and replace it. turned on and nothing. just a little intermittent little "pluck" from the speaker, but no lights, etc. Turned off and started to look for the mistake...and i dont found it. I try to turn it on again and, "puff", a tiny little explosion directly from the power supply board, looking closer, i think its from a little tiny chip that i dont know what it is, but a supose its a IC.

PS: This is the "downside" of the PCB (green). The "upper side" (yellow) its where we have the big components, like electrolytic capacitor, the micro fuse and all.

NOW i think i'd forget to ground something...likely on the SMPS PCB (Switch Mode Power Supply). From the pics you can see the burnt spot, between those bigger chip, and a little SMD (a capacitor?) component. i think it could be fixed it, but i dont found any supplier of this PCB's from fender mustangs. Maybe i dont have the skills to solder a so tiny piece, but i could at least know what the components is, so i could buy it from ebay or something, and let a professional do the thing.

well, help me to fix that little buddy. im all ears and i thank you all in advance.

As far as I'm aware, Fender don't supply replacement PCBs as a spare part that you can buy. You'll have to contact a Fender service centre and see what they can do for you.

The Mustang amps seem (admittedly unlike most electrical equipment these days!) only to work with one mains voltage, that of the territory where the amp was originally sold. I guess this keeps costs down - although power supplies are commodity items, I suppose a single-voltage supply is still marginally cheaper than a multi-voltage one.

So if you have a 110v Mustang, you can't connect it to a 220v supply - or if you do, it will go bang, as you have found.

Thanks, Scott. Yeah, i know about the voltage thing. it was a slip. i used to plug it to a stabilizer, in my bedroom. when i take it to another room, i forgot.

About the Fender supply, i already look, research and read about that and, yes, they do not supply any PCB as a replacement. What i was thinking is if i can replace some broken component or, seeing that power supply PCB its the only when i have a problem, even replace the mustang power supply PCB with another one. like that selling on ebay, for example.

Thanks again for you kind reply!

The problem is going to be determining what the parts are. that 8 pin IC needs to be replaced obviously, and probably some diodes on that board. You can always use regular diodes and such and just remove the surface mount component or even snip them in the middle just to cut any connection that may be a short, then solder the regular diodes leads to the ends. But again, the problem is finding the component values. there is no mustang schematic availavle on the fender site and chances are fender isn't going to help you with it. So you have two options....take it to a service center or trash it and buy another mustang. i really don't think you have another choice unless you can determine at least what that IC is. The diodes you may be able to figure out, but that IC has got to be determined and i doubt fender will tell you that. And chances are a repair is going to run 1/2 as much as the amp costs or more. Sorry for your troubles and hate to be the bearer of bad news.

Agree with oczad. One other possibility, is if you can find a cheap, broken second-hand Mustang 1, that is broken in some other way to yours - ie it has an intact power supply PCB. You could then swap the PCBs.

I say "cheap" because it would have to be pretty cheap to be worth the aggravation. I say "broken" because if you buy a working Mustang 1, there's no point repairing your existing one. Obviously the hard part is determining whether the fault with the "broken" amp you buy is definitely not in the power-supply PCB...

The same think happened to a friend in India.

Does anyone know the output voltage(s) of the power supply? We are thinking that we will just find a replacement power supply on the open market if we can identify the output voltage.

Thanks in advance!!

Hi MrMKramer.

If you and your friend come out with any solution, please share with us here! i think about try another power supply already. maybe a "generic one" those pre-build boards selling from china. but i dont really know what i need exactly. if you could help us with that information, it will be very apppreciated.

Thank you!
