I'm learning how to use a compressor in varied ways and found this use interesting.

For those of you that would like to have a "smart" gate that minimizes finger/pick noises but that found that the included noise gates are too drastic, here's a trick to try:

-add a compressor effect to the front of the chain:
-Level = 1 ( I learnt that in the case of the compressor effect 1= unity gain, going above will change your amp tone as it will increase the level of your guitar output)
-Threshold = very low, but not 1 (at one the compressor will be pretty much always engaged, try with 1.5-2.5 range)
-attack = 10 (you want the compressor to very slowly increase volume when a note starts, to minimize pick/finger noises)
-release = 1 (business as usual, no extra sustain)
-Ratio = 500-1000, try some chords and pick your setting. At 1000 you have a subtte swell effect that I like

the effect is subtle but effective IMO

It works but I don't care for the resulting effect. I guess I like sharp attacks :)
Nice trick to know about though.

VEry interesting... i'm adding this to the guide.

Need some time to noodle with it but i think that the result can be suitable on clean(acustic) solos too...
