I just got my Mustang 3 v2 and am wondering if I can have the included 2 button foot switch combined with both the 4 button and EXP 1 expression pedal ?

I had a Google but found little information on this setup.

Thanks.
Hit :D

Yes you can. I use all three (2 and 4 button, exp1) plus a wah pedal in the front end

Thanks for the info. I should probably have checked before I ordered them. Love the amplifier. Can't wait to get more time with it.

Cool! Let us know how it works out. I too have the M3 and was toying with the idea of getting either one of those (4 button & or exp peddle). Didn't know you could use all three.

And for completeness...

If using the EXP-1 and the MS-4 together, connect them thus:

- Plug EXP-1 into the MS-4 socket on the amp

- Plug the MS-4 into the second socket on the EXP-1

The two connectors on the EXP-1 are clearly marked: one for the amp, one for the MS-4.

If you have the MS-4 and EXP-1 side-by-side, you can connect them to each other with a short patch cable, you don't have to use the long cable supplied with the MS-4.

All may be used together, even though most of the features of the 2 btn fsw become redundant to what the 4btn fsw can do.

If the firmware allowed additional (i.e different) QAs to be assigned to the 2btn (when used in conjunction with the 4btn) that would be great.

Also, following an amp factory reset, or the first time the EXP-1 is connected, the EXP-1's calibration procedure must be done without the 4btn fsw connected!

Have you looked at all the options? You can assign many different functions to the 2 switch button. It's especially useful if you lock the 4 button mode (which I do so I don't have to worry about it hitting the wrong mode)

Many do like locking the 4btn fsw to a single mode.

I prefer the Normal setting for agile access to all 4 modes. Locking it to a single mode kills 2/3rds of its versatility.

The 2btn fsw's configuration options (in the UTIL button menu) only allow selection of one pair of features from the several pairs available. When used w/ the 4btn (unlocked), the 2btn only adds Tap and Reverb controls (otherwise unavailable w/ the 4btn fsw). The other configuration options for the 2btn duplicate what the 4btn Normal setting already does.

Fender's design nicely allows each of us to configure how we prefer to use the gear.

Mustang III 2-button Footswitch Instructions

Connect a 2-button footswitch to your Mustang amplifier to enable remote multi-function foot control.

Use the Utility menus to assign one of the following functions to the 2-button footswitch:

• Select presets (up/down)
• Select Quick Access presets (QA1/QA2)
• Bypass effects (various combinations)
• Set TAP interval

1. Press the UTIL button on the top of the amplifier to enter the Utility menu

2. Press the UTIL button 3 more times until the display reads 2-Btn Ftsw Mode. If you pass it by accident, just keep pressing UTIL until it comes around again

3. The footswitch will be set to Down/Up (default setting)

4. Turn the DATA WHEEL until the desired footswitch function is selected

5. Once the desired function is selected, press EXIT. The last thing you chose will stay.

These are the available functions:

a. Down/Up - choose this function if you'd like to simply scroll up and down through the presets. This allows you to scroll through all 100 presets in a linear fashion (in other words, you can't skip from preset 01 to preset 10 without pressing the Up button 9 times or the Down button 91 times).

b. QA1/QA2 - choose this function if you'd like to use the pedal to switch between 2 Quick Access presets of your choosing. You will not be able to scroll through the rest of the presets using the pedal if you choose this option.

c. Stomp/Mod - choose this option if you'd like button 1 to turn a stomp box for the selected preset on and off, and button 2 to turn a modulation effect for the selected preset on and off. You will not be able to scroll through the rest of the presets using the pedal if you choose this option.

d. Stomp/Delay - choose this option if you'd like button 1 to turn a stomp box for the selected preset on and off, and button 2 to turn the delay effect for the selected preset on and off. You will not be able to scroll through the rest of the presets using the pedal if you choose this option.

e. Stomp/Reverb - choose this option if you'd like button 1 to turn a stomp box for the selected preset on and off, and button 2 to turn the reverb effect for the selected preset on and off. You will not be able to scroll through the rest of the presets using the pedal if you choose this option.

f. Stomp/Tap - choose this option if you'd like button 1 to turn a stomp box for the selected preset on and off, and button 2 to set delay time or modulation rate settings for the selected preset by rhythmically pressing button 2. You will not be able to scroll through the rest of the presets using the pedal if you choose this option.

 NOTE: You might wonder why there are 3 Quick Access slots when there are only 2 buttons on the footswitch. That's where the optional 4-button footswitch comes in. You can use it by itself to get similar options to the 2-button footswitch, but with a little more flexibility:

4-Button Footswitching options

Connect a 4-button footswitch to your Mustang amplifier to enable remote multi-function foot control. The footswitch display and LEDs show you some of the same information as the amplifier screen, so you can, for example, tune your guitar and select presets by watching the footswitch without ever looking at the screen onboard the Mustang III!

• Select Quick Access presets (QA1/QA2/QA3)
• Select presets (up/down/bank)
• Bypass effects
• Activate the Tuner

You can also use the 2-button and 4-button footswitches together to gain access to more than a dozen footswitch options:

6-Button Footswitching options

Plug both a 4-button and a 2-button footswitch into your Mustang amplifier to expand your remote control options. By assigning different functions to each footswitch you can create more than a dozen different foot control combinations.

For example, you could assign Quick Access presets to the 4-button footswitch and Up/Down presets to the 2-button footswitch. Or you could bypass effects with the 4-button footswitch and select presets with the 2-button footswitch.
