This gets just a little more confusing than compatibility between the different models, because now there are v1 and v2 amps (version1 and version 2).

So ....

A v1 amp can load presets from any other model v1 amp and the only difference in the sound will be due to the hardware (different speaker, open back cab vs closed, etc.). So the presets are completely compatible across all v1 amp models.

A v1 amp can also load presets from a v2 amp (any model) but, if there's an effect or model used in the preset from the v2 amp which does not exist in the v1 amp, Fender FUSE will automatically try to substitute models/effects that are available on the v1 amp. So v2 presets can be used on a v1 amp, but they might sound a little different.

A v2 amp can load any preset from any model Fender Mustang amp; whether it's v1 or v2 doesn't matter. The v2 amps have everything the v1 amps have, and then some.

Ya dig?

Exactly the same settings and effects, models, etc. BUT the Mustang III has a 12" Celestion speaker and open back, where the MI has an 8" Fender® Special Design speaker and a closed cabinet. The sound will be a little different, but only due to the differences in the physical hardware. FWIW (in my opinion) the Mustang III is the best value, and does just fine as a home practice amp at low volume levels.

Glad to help! :D

Excellent! Thanks :) Yeah I would prefer the Mustang 3 but feared it would be waaayyy too loud for home use, having said that it does have master volume which is a godsend for suitable volumes at home

yep, as long as you have room for the slightly larger cabinet, the Master volume does the trick. The only thing I had to do was go through all the presets and lowed the VOLUME setting so I could have a finer adjustment using the master. They are kind of cranked by default.

The Mustang I and II have 17 amp models and 24 effect models (I'm talking v2 amps here).
The Mustang III, IV, and V have 17 amp models and 44 effect models.
The MI and MII have 24 memory locations for storing your patches and no real front panel display other than the colored LEDs that indicate which patch (memory location) you are currently using.
The MIII, MIV and MV have 100 memory locations for patches and a very cool LED display that shows many different aspects of your current patch. Very powerful and helpful.
Although I have the MI and use it a lot, I also have two MIII's and prefer the information on their LED display as opposed to the MI. I also like the open-back cab with the 12" Celestion in the MIII.
Hope you find this helpful.
