Hi,

I've been using my Mustang I for quite some time now, and I've always used Ableton Live 9 to record it via USB. However, recently the Mini B USB cable broke and I went out and got a new one but this time it's not getting recognized? Help would be much appreciated.

HI mewzickk,

If successful connectivity changed from the old cable to a replacement cable, I would suggest making sure that the new cable is a standard A to mini B cable. This cable can be easily confused with a standard A to micro B - different cable.

So, just be sure that you have the correct replacement. If the cable is correct, then we suggest taking a look at our "No Amp Connected" troubleshooting document. And please let us know if we assist further.

Best Regards,

Alan

How do you know the cable was the problem, and not the USB port?

Hi, Alan.

Your help is much appreciated, however none of the stuff that I could do on my own (without contacting you guys) worked. It's probably a problem with the amplifier itself, and not the computer, because when I plug it in, it's so unrecognized that not even the chime that's supposed to play comes on.

Because I plug other stuff into it and it works perfectly fine.

Hi mewzickk,

Thanks for the additional information. Based on this information, it sounds like the amp may indeed have a hardware issue. I would suggest that you try connecting the amp to a second PC (if possible) just to confirm that the amp is not able to connect to a computer at all at this point. Then, you may want to contact an authorized service center (see link below) to get the amp checked out. And please let us know if we can assist further from our end.

Best Regards,

Alan

That doesn't tell you that it's working fine - the "other stuff" might use different USB methods. Mass storage, for example, use a quite different protocol. You might have a driver vs device compatibility problem.

If this is a Windows 7 computer with a USB 3.0 port (blue plastic in the middle instead of black), it's likely to be an incompatibility between the amp and the USB 3.0 port. In Windows 7, USB 3.0 drivers are provided by the manufacturer, and run in user space. Even when the drivers are running in USB 2.0 compatibility mode, they cannot provide the low level undocumented functionality of USB 2.0, including guaranteed rate io. Most things will work, but some won't. The blame is then not with the USB port or driver but the external devices that don't work because they depend on functionality only present (but not officially supported) in USB 2.0.
In Windows 8, it is no longer a problem, because Microsoft bit the bullet and re-incorporated USB as part of the OS/kernel drivers, giving them extended privileges like they had in pre-USB 3.0 days. So a workaround if you only have USB 3.0 ports is to downgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 8.
