I have a Mustang II v2 but one trick I found with the Marshall models that works well for me is using the Blackbox stomp in front with the gain set kinda mild. Since the Rat is deemed a “Marshall in a box” type pedal I found this to help goose the JCM and the Plexi models but keeps their “Marshally” character. I especially like it with the plexi. Seems to give it a nice woody marshally sound. For the tone setting on the stomp I like to rotate it all the way clockwise so its cutting all the highs it can, then slowly back it off until I’m happy with the cut through I’m getting. Works well for the real pedal too.

I'll have to try that, I always thought the marshall emulation was on the weak side and this may be the cure for it.
