Hi there,

Can you guys give me some tips about the awesome amp?

Bought one some days ago and I wanna know some tips about it, or about anything with it...

I'm novice with the amp, and with the guitar, so any tip is welcome.

Thx ;)

The best tip I can give you is stick close to this forum and go back and read as many posts as you can. There's lots of good information here about the best ways to use the amp and how to take advantage of it's features.

My best advice since you're new to both the amp and the guitar is start simple. Rather than exploring all the presets, limit yourself at first to just exploring the various base amp models which are contained in presets 88 through 99. Since all other presets are based on one of these models this will give you a feel for what each of them does and sounds like, then you can build from there.

Do not ignore the value/importance of learning to use Fuse software. It is not difficult to use and there are plenty of patches that have been created by your colleagues that you can download, tweak, and make your own! Also, if there is a sound in your head that you can create in Fuse, you can upload it and share it with the world. Fuse makes the Mustang series the most flexible amps on the planet. There are plenty of You Tube videos that compare the Mustang models to the real amps. YOU CAN'T TELL THE DIFFERENCE!

The Achilles Heel of these amps is that the headphone and USB jacks are rather fragile. Take special care that the cables connected to them don't get jerked around or come under strain.

The 5 year warranty (in the U.S.) is great but you don't want to be without an amp for a while should it need replacement.

+1 On all the posts above. I would like to add, BUY A GOOD SURGE SUPPRESSOR! The Mustang is an amp and a computer. I make sure that mine is unplugged when not in use. :)

Oh yea, you may get some grief about your amp from some "old school" players, ignore them. 8)

I know it can all be kind of overwhelming when you are first starting out, but you have an amazing piece of gear at your disposal. Don't be afraid to jump in and explore all that it has to offer. Do check out all the presets. Do play with the amp controls. Do play with the effects. Do explore Fender Fuse, etc... (But it should be obvious, don't do these things at the expense of your practice time.) As long as you are having fun and learning it's all going toward the same goal.

Congratulations.

Have fun. I to am new to both guitar and amps too. I got the M3 as well. This forum is a great help the amp. Really good members that really CARE and want to help. Collectively they really have the ability to explain thing so a newbie can understand.

As a beginner myself I like the Fender Bassman models. Maybe it's a forgiving amp model for beginners. Idk. It seams to work well for me.

Once your ready to explore the amps features hook up to fuse. It will helps me understand many of the feature of the amp much easier than simply using the amp controls. You can see the effects layer out, the nobs as they would appear on the modeled amp etc.

I recommend you Check out the YouTube channel for "In The Blues." The guy did a few really good introduction videos on the mustang amps and then a series called Mustang Monday where demos a tone a week that he made available on the fuse website.

Have fun.

thx guys for the replies...

just you guys to know, I'm using Fuse since day 1 hehe... I guess I know about 90% how to use Fuse now... it isn't complicated to use... Just some advanced options I don't understand very well, like the BIAS and other stuff...

I have a question, how do you guys make some preset for some specific song?

I'm not asking about selecting the options, amp model, stomp etc, but how do you guys make it similiar, the sound, to a specific sound?

For example, My Friend of Misery, from Metallica, or even Master of Puppets (I know there is a preset for this song), how do you guys make a preset for this? Do you guys read what equipment they used? Or it's only by hearing the song?

I personally haven't gotten that far in my amp studies or guitar playing ability to creat a specific tone for a specific song. :?

I would search the on-line Fuse website and down load a few based on what was out there... :D

I guess what most of us do is create several different presets that can be used depending on the basic sounds you want,

Clean preset
Slightly over driven preset
High/Modern gain preset

and then, maybe one more, some where close by that you can use for solos

using the Quick Access presets, you can just grab what sound you need for a specific song.

did you also pickup the 4 button foot switch? this comes in quite handy. It's expensive but it's worth it.

Re: the question about making a patch for a specific song.

A good place to start is by finding out elsewhere on the internet what kind of gear (amp, effects, guitar, etc.) the artist uses. If possible, sometimes you can find an interview with them online or in a mag wherein they describe the gear used for that particular song...sometimes. Anyway, do your research first.

Then go through the amp and effect models and assemble what looks close in your mind to the artists setup. After that it's basically all in your ears and mind, tweaking here and there till you get it right. Sometimes, even though they use an amp or effect that is modeled in the Mustang series, in order to get just "that sound" in your mind's eye (or ear), you will have to use a different amp or effect model than the artist used. Takes some time, but it's fun!!

Also, don't forget the Fuse library. If you like a song, it may be that someone else also likes it enough to have already made such a patch. Then all you have to do is download it and tweak it to your own satisfaction.
