I'm hoping someone can help me... We had an electrical storm the other day and the transformer behind my house blew. My Mustang II V2 was plugged in, but wasn't turned on. When the power was restored, I found that the amp sounded very strange and would no longer connect to the computer. I tried resetting the presets, but it still sounds very different. I'm assuming that a power surge fried the amp, but want to do everything I can to make sure before I give up on it. The owner's manual doesn't list a fuse anywhere and I've never taken it apart to look. Any suggestions? All help will be greatly appreciated.

Sorry to hear your amp's not working, that's frustrating.

If you're still getting sound from the amp, even weird sound, then there isn't a blown fuse. (I assume you mean you get guitar-like sound when you play the guitar through the amp, or do you just mean the amp is making a weird noise all the time, and doesn't reproduce your guitar sound at all?)

Also, if it is amplifying any sound at all from the guitar that suggests the DSP section is working - I would expect that to either work fully or not at all, you'd be unlikely to partially 'fry' the firmware etc and still get partial sound. To confirm, can you still change presets and effects etc? It's more likely the power amp or speakers are damaged.

I believe the computer USB connection is on a different mini-circuit board, that could be damaged.

Whatever the cause, this is probably not economically repairable. These amps don't contain discrete, replaceable components - it's all custom chips on a PCB. The only thing you could do is get a Fender service centre to replace the whole PCB, and compare the cost of that against replacing the amp.

That's what I was afraid of, but I figured it was worth a try to ask. Thank you!
