I have a quick question for forum members. I've only been playing with the guitar for a few months now, but seem to have been bitten pretty hard by the guitar bug :-)
None of the sounds I´m producing sound like music to anyone else (and it will probably stay that way for quite some time) , but I´m having a lot of fun with it.

I've acquired a few used guitars (Fender Lonestar Deluxe Strat, Squier Vintage modified Telecaster and Squier Affinity Strat) and amps (Fender Frontman 15G, Fender Vibro-Champ XD and a tiny VOX DA5). I don't have any pedals and just came across an ad for a used Mustang floor which seems pretty cool. Wondering if using that with the Frontman 15G is a bad idea or no? (I was initially thinking of using it with the Vibro-Champ but from what I've learned lurking on the forum is that it is apparently a modelling amp without a clean channel).

Your thoughts? Please advise also if there is anything in particular I should be on the lookout for when testing the Mustang Floor and deciding whether to buy it or not.

Advance thanks :-)

if you're comfortable with reading manuals, seeking out answers, and figuring things out, I'd say why not? It's a piece of gear you can use to experiment with now, and when you move up to a bigger rig later, the Floor will still be useful, and will sound better than ever. Just make sure you leave enough time in between tinkering and tweaking to really learn how to play.

Ideally, you want to be able to test everything.

Test the display. Pressing down and holding any of the soft buttons should open up the edit options page for that button. Pressing down the value wheel will toggle through the different value options and allow you to change them.

Test the output, both the balanced and unbalanced, if you can.

Test the Foot Pedal. It is placed post amp output, pre mod, delay and reverb. When tracking it should show "Volume" on the display. When you push the toe all the when down, make sure the soft switch activates and changes modes. The preset may have both set to volume, but the display should flash to signify the change. I like the action on mine, so make sure the pedal action remains smooth. There is an adjustment option of on the side that you need a tool to adjust. Give it a good look over and make sure it's not stripped and it all is in good condition.

Test the mode footswitch on the upper left corner, the light should change and it should go from pre-set mode to "stomp box" mode.

Test all the Foot switches to make sure they function.

Test the output volume control to make sure it functions.

Check the power adapter and cords to make sure they are all in good condition.

Some of the factory presets are noisy, so ask to check out any that the user created and see if they are noisy. Anyone who knows how to use the unit should be able to get some clean sounding sounds.

Check the software requirements on the forum to make sure the editing software is compatible with your computer so you will be able to take full advantage of your ability to use the unit.

I really, really like mine. A little time and learning and you can be putting together some great sounds in no time. I play mine through the PA of my church and an old Vox Pathfinder (the 45 watt version) with flat EQ for reference. I also use that amp for sound creation.. Have lot's of fun, I hope it works out for you and fits your rig requirements.

Thanks for your input, appreciate you both taking the time to reply.
@strings10927 - Point well taken on leaving enough time for learning how to play :-) Gotta be careful not too get too carried away playing with all these shiny electronic toys.

@NJ_WorshipLdr - Really appreciate the detailed check-list for putting the Floor through the motions. Didn't get a chance to do everything you suggested, but was able to get enough done that I´m satisfied I got a good unit with minimal use/wear&tear. The guy I bought it from clearly never put in the time to plug it into the computer, download and install the software or update the firmware on the unit. I got the impression and feeling that he hardly used the unit at all (it even has the plastic cover on the screen still). So I guess I got lucky :)

Really looking forward to playing with it and experimenting with different amp voices, effects and such. Tried hooking it up to the Frontman 15G but didn't really care for the way it sounded (not sure if it's the amp or the cheap crappy cables I was using). Then plugged into the VibroChamp XD using voice 1 (I think that's as close to clean as I'm going to get on that amp) and that sounded much better.

One of the things that sold me on the unit was the Fender promo video on YouTube
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QW1ntWKuy-o
Love the '05 Country Deluxe' amp voice/setting.

Does anyone know who that is playing the Telecaster (starting at 1:29 min in through 2:34) and if that is a song I can get tabs for that he's playing, or if it's improvised?

I'm making it my life's ambition to be able to play like that :)
