I use the "PHONES" out jack and love that method of recording:

Guitar > Mustang > PHONES out > M-AUDIO interface > PC > Reaper

My question is this:
Will there be any difference in sound quality (with the exception of volume/levels) between recording with a Mustang I and a Mustang II?

Can I assume that the digital modeling info is identical with perhaps the exception of the volume/levels (wattage)?

I don't think Fender have ever officially said anything on the matter, but my understanding is yes, the modelling is the same across the Mustang range.

What may vary across the different Mustang models is the cab emulations; it has been debated (but again no-one knows for certain and Fender haven't commented on this) that the cab emulations may be different on each Mustang, to take account of the different physical speakers and cabinets.

However, that won't affect you, if you're using the headphones output. What is certain (and stated by Fender) is that headphone-specific, cab emulation is used for the headphone output, as distinct from the emulation used for the real power amp and speaker.

A question for you: why use the headphone output and then an audio interface, that I presume (you don't say) converts the sound back to digital / USB? Why not just use the Mustang's USB direct to the PC? This should give you better quality. Also, this uses the same cab emulation as the headphones output, so will be the same across the Mustang model range.

I forgot what the problem was, but I had problem(s) that I couldn't work out properly.
I would have rather used the USB out, but I went back and forth with support AND I spent (wasted?) tons of time on my computer.
Reaper and/or my computer wasn't always recognizing the Mustang. There also might have been a latency issue also. I need close to zero latency or I won't be happy.

I use a desktop pc and I have Windows XP (64 bit).

Thanks for asking.
