Hi,

I've bought a Mustang I a few months ago, used it as is without any problems, and I recently got the 2-button footswitch that goes with it.

However I'm having a problem switching channels/presets with the footswitch. I've set up two presets to use the "green" and "red" channels on the footswitch, but no matter which button I press on the footswitch (Down/A or Up/B), I always have the green channel when buttons are released and the red channel when any button is pressed (and kept being pushed). So, I only ever get the red channel when I press (and leave the button pressed) one of the buttons on the footswitch, and the green channel otherwise, and cannot get it to switch channels. Obviously keeping any button pressed continuously to get the red channel on is not normal behavior.

I've upgraded the amp to the latest firmware, reset it to factory defaults, but it still has the same behavior.

Am I doing anything wrong? I'm starting to suspect that my Amp might have a problem with the FTSW input. Any ideas?

Thx,
Bass

It sounds like you have the wrong footswitch for your amp. There is no 2-button footswitch that goes with this amp.

The Mustang 1 only works with a one-button footswitch. The two-button footswitch (the MS-2, Fender part number 0080997000, assuming you have the Mustang part and not another two-button footswitch) only works with the Mustang 3, 4 and 5.

The correct footswitch for the Mustang 1 is detailed in your amp's owners manual, it's a one-button footswitch and is Fender part number 0994049000. Alternatively, and as Fender themselves have stated here in the past, any basic latching footswitch should work (ie you can use any footswitch that closes the circuit on one button push, and opens it again on the next button push). To re-emphasise, the MS-2 (that it sounds like you've bought) isn't a latching footswitch and works differently.

Interestingly, the almost-identical question has come up twice in recent weeks (and many more times before that):

Yes indeed this seems to be the problem. I will have the footswitch replaced with the right one

Thx,
