I'm fairly new to playing the electric guitar. I purchased a Mustang Mini recently at Guitar Center in Manhattan. I didn't get an owner's manual with it and am having trouble with the settings. I have somehow added effects I did not want. I don't understand the "save" and "exit" buttons which flash different colors--what do the different colors mean? Is there a comprehensive users' manual somewhere? I don't recall "saving" any effects yet this is what happened. :(

Also, I sometimes get incredible static. Anyone else have this problem?

Welcome.

Yes...the provided info is not stellar, so no loss in not having it anyway.

Check out the sticky posts at the top of the forum, after a few well-chosen clicks they can take you to Fender's provided information.

As an alternative...search this forum for some newbie hints...or, just hit this one from mordor74 and see how you do:

Hang in there...

Cheers.

There are two manuals - the one-page (per language) Quick-Start Guide, and the more detailed Advanced Manual. Only the Quick Start Guide is ever shipped with the amps, the Advanced Manual is always download-only.

A quick search of the Fender Support website for "Mustang Mini Manual" gives this link, from which you can download both the above manuals in PDF form:
http://www.fender.com/support/articles/ ... s-manuals/
(I'm presuming you tried to search for this yourself before posting but were unable to find it; for curiosity, what did you search for?)

Do you mean a crackly sound through the speaker, or you personally receiving a static electricity shock from the guitar?

If the former, then use a shorter guitar cable (if possible - just don't have coils of it across the floor) and make sure the guitar cable is nowhere near any other cables (power cables, computer network/USB cables, other AV cables, etc). Also, depending on your guitar, the pickups could be subject to interference.

If the latter, then check your mains power supply is properly earthed/grounded. Or if you're standing on nylon carpet, etc, that could just be causing a static build-up in you that's discharging through the guitar - not a problem with the amp at all.

I think that's a bit harsh. The manuals could in some areas be more detailed, but the info they do provide is certainly very useful, and would help the OP.

Fair enough, there is a fair bit of basic information everyone should review...I should have been more specific.

The included information identifies most of the functionality, but does not provide sufficient guidance on what to do with all this functionality...and I did direct the OP to where to find it online. After watching the same "Help Me" threads arise month after month, there's reason to criticize the usefulness of the standard documentation.

I think over time, the information in these spaces has been vital to many new users.

That's what I meant to say.

thanks for the help!

I followed the instructions in the advanced manual, which tells you to turn off the amp, then turn it on while holding down the "exit" button, in order to erase the effects. I'm not sure it totally worked. It sounds like I am still getting reverb.

I didn't search the forums or site to find the owner's manual because I think if you pay money for an item that has controls and settings, you should get the owner's manual when you buy the item! I thus thought that perhaps there was no owner's manual for this item. Why should I have to go to a website and download, or print out using my own paper, the owner's manual? (this is a rhetorical question). I am old school and remember the days when a customer got better treatment...

If you bought the item brand new, it should have had the Quick Start Guide in the box, and that guide tells you how to get the Advanced Manual, so Fender are trying to do the right thing here. If you bought an 'open box' (eg display) item from a shop, they should still have given you all the correct items - otherwise they can't sell the item as 'new.' So maybe the shop screwed up, or maybe they were selling it as 'not quite new, some parts may be missing' but didn't do enough to make you aware of that.

As most people these days are happy to read things like the Advanced Manual online, I guess Fender decided they could cut a dollar or two off the retail price of the amps by not printing that part and putting it in the box. There will of course always be people who for perfectly good reasons would be happy to pay slightly more for the product and have a printed manual supplied. Fender had to make a choice one way or the other - for a product that is inherently intended to be used with a computer, they chose the online route, which does seem reasonable to me. By comparison, Fender have other more 'conventional' amps and with those they do provide printed documentation. That does match what most manufacturers seem to do these days: computer-based products have online documentation, non-computer products have paper docs.

The factory reset (pressing EXIT while turning on the amp) will either work completely, or not at all (or rather: it should always work, there's no reason for it not to). If you think some of your changes have been reset, then they all will have been. I'm not familiar with the Mustang Mini, maybe some of its standard factory settings include reverb, or is there a knob you need to turn to zero to fully disable reverb?

You should probably make your feelings known to Fender, if you want anything to change. This is just a forum of other amp owners. Personally, I'm not sure it's 'better' treatment - as I describe above, it's just 'different' treatment for computer-based products. Overall, from personal experience and others' reports, Fender to treat their customers pretty well, a lot better than many companies in this industry. Just my opinion of course, everyone will have their own view on this.
