Hi guys. I have a MIII v2 and just picked up an EXP-1 expression pedal. It seems like the expression pedal settings are global and not per patch. Is this true?

Also, what use is the controller part of the pedal (not the volume) if to turn it on, it is automatically maxed out because your foot has to be all the way down to engage? I don't get this. Is there something I am missing? I'm ready to return this and just get a volume pedal.

Thanks!

I don't have the amp or FUSE in front of me to check, but I'm 99.999% certain the EXP-1 settings are per-preset. At least most of them are, there might be one or two settings that are global, can't think of anything specific right now though.

Yes, you do have to 'max out' the pedal in order to press the button to change it between 'volume' and 'expression' mode. Yes this is an irritation if you want to change mode while playing. But how often do you need to do that? I'd always taken it that one would either want a volume or an expression pedal, for a particular piece of music, etc, and set it to the appropriate one at the start. Or if you did need to change it during playing, that it would coincide with a preset change anyway (that would then pick-up the settings from the new preset, so no need to engage the pedal's own button).

I don't quite understand. If all you want is a volume pedal, then the EXP-1 does that eminently well, and neither of the problems you cite would be an issue in practice (as you'd just leave it on 'volume' mode all the time?) Of course, if you genuinely only want a volume pedal then a standard analogue pedal inline with the audio signal might be a cheaper option, but would have more of an adverse effect on the sound quality compared to the digital EXP-1 pedal.

make that 100%, it's per preset. It does default to Volume Pedal mode for all presets, but again, that's the default for each preset, not the amp.

I don't think you're missing anything, that's the way it works. I guess you'd prefer to have an on/off button instead? But then if you're pressing an on/off button, your foot isn't on the expression pedal, so there's going to be a delay anyway while you move your foot.

Is there another product out there that has solved this?

Thanks....I'll have to play around with Fuse. I am in the process of building a pedalboard (PedalTrain Jr) with all the foot controllers for the Mustang plus an A-B-Y switch. Once I get that done, I'll have time to experiment.

Yes,
Exp-1 is per-preset in the expression mode but you can set just a global pedal volume setting
in the Volume pedal mode...
if i set a range for example of 3 to 10 it is the same in every preset. But often different presets can require different volume range..
i would like a per-preset setting also for the Volume pedal mode as it is in Roland/boss pedalboards for example.. the Pedal Volume is considered like every other effect in the chain and can be assigned to the built-in Expression pedal or an external, per-preset.
