Hi! I purchased the Mustang V amp and can about 6 months ago and am wondering if there's a way to connect the head to a sound system. The guys I play with all use pedal boards, but they're expensive and if I don't have to spend money on them, I don't want to. We use DI boxes to put our guitars into the sound system. Is there a way that I can put my Mustang V head into the system so that i can have my effects using a DI box?

Thanks for your time! :)

Asked/answered many times before on this forum.

In brief: you can use the fx-send sockets of your Mustang-V head as line-outs. Or if you have a "V2" Mustang, it has XLR sockets for this exact purpose.

Both of these should be suitable to go direct to the inputs of your PA / sound system, you shouldn't need a separate DI box.

Thank you!! I've been looking around online about how fx send works, so now I have some new questions. (I'm still really new to guitar technology).

If I use FX send outputs with the sound system, do I have to return the signal?

I'm essentially trying to use my amp as a pedal board, so using the FX send outputs, do I have to be worried about the Watts/Ohms of the speakers in the system? (I don't think so, but I don't want to risk it).

Final question. There are two FX send outputs. Do I use both of them? (Once again, I don't think so). If so, how would that work? Would I have to separate channels in the system for my guitar, or is there a way to combine them?

Thanks so much for your time!!!! :)

Nope, it doesn't have to return.

There are 2 sends to allow for stereo devices in the effects loop. You can just tap one of them, or send them both to separate channels on the PA. Then you can adjust the 2 channels separately on the PA and/or pan them left and right.

you can't mic it? other guys going direct only?

hmm.. anyway I think for the amp/head set up..

this would probably work.

http://www.radialeng.com/jdx.php

using unshielded cables from the head to the DI, then from the DI to the cab,

then with a Low Imp (mic cable) to the board/snake/PA.. etc

and you're there!

the sound guy we hire for shows uses these, I usually use my Marshall rig for live performances, it does capture the sound better than a mic would.
