Still new to the mustang IV and have made some presets and have downloaded some as well. Had a few nights of gigging and the solos aren't cutting thru! Usually have a clean channel and tube screamer mode from the amp. Is there another boost option I could use with the fender twin and tube screamer or would I be better ordering a spate boost pedal? Thanks for any advice.

I've had my M4 v2 for a few months and gigged with it a couple of times. My other guitar player uses a twin 90 watt Mesa that is loud as heck and really cuts through. His playing style is guitar volume on full and let the pedals raise and lower the volume. I tend to use the volume on my guitar along with pedals. On a rhythm part I'm usually about half way up on my guitar volume. I'll hit an overdrive when I start a lead and then I have plenty of gain in my volume knob to cut through and build up the emotion.

If my style was like my other guitar player, I'd need a boost pedal on the floor.

Since you are new to you amp, please do not take offense when I point out the preset volume and master volume are independent. Set the master for general level for non-solo. Try upping the volume (and gain) for your solo presets. As the 4-button footswitch allows three quick select presets you should be able to bounce between presets with solos that will slice through anything.

I personally feel you should not need a separate boaster, but that is just my opinion. You have 150 watts at your fingertips. There is a current thread in Modern Amplifiers(a few forums down) with the consensus that 100 watts is too much.

You should have everything you need in the amp to get your solos to cut through. Normally if I'm playing clean on a rhythm part and then want to use a boosted solo I start with the Twin model. On that model I have use the overdrive pedal set up and boost the volume on that pedal up considerably. When it comes time for the lead I simply turn on the overdrive pedal and it cuts through just fine. What I have noticed is that when I'm setting this up in isolation (without the band playing) I tend to underestimate how much volume boost on the overdrive I'll need, so the lesson learned is to set the boost pedal volume higher than you would expect. You can always tweak the volume boost on the pedal once you go into practice with the rest of the band to get it better.

One thing you may be running into is that distortion is basically signal clipping. Because of this heavy distortion will often not "cut through" in the same manner as a simple overdriven signal which is a bit cleaner. In other words it tends to blend into the surrounding sound more than a cleaner tone, so you may need to bring that volume up considerably or tighten down on the distortion in order to get it to stand out.
