I have a 1x12 16 Ohm, 100Watt speaker cab that I'd like to run with a Mustang V.

I know it has 2 8 Ohm outputs on the back. Is there a way to wire it so that it can drive a single 16 Ohm speaker?

Is it possible to create a special speaker cable that combines the outputs to a single 1/4 speaker jack?

I read that you need to use BOTH outputs at once. I know you can put a 16Ohm spekaer on an 8Ohm amp.

I own a Fender Mustang FLoor and wanted to get a power amp to drive my 4x12 cab. Thought a Mustangg V would be easier.

No. But see below.

You need to use both outputs if you want both the left and right channels of the stereo signal. You can use just one output if you only care about one channel - for example if you're only using mono effects. In this case yes you could connect your 16 ohm speaker, but it will be quieter than an equivalent 8 ohm speaker.

Also, the unconnected side of the power amp will be driving an open circuit. For a solid-state power amp such as the Mustang, this probably isn't serious, but I wouldn't want to do it as a long-term option, or at higher power/volume.

If you already have a 4x12 cab, why bother with the 1x12? It's pretty easy to re-wire your 4x12 cab to have two separate inputs with a usable impedance and thus work with a Mustang V head (if indeed this is necessary, some 4x12 cabs already come with connections for this sort of thing). What is the power rating and impedance of the speakers in this cab? How are the speakers currently wired (4 in series, 4 in parallel, two parallel sets of two in series)? What input connection(s) does the cab currently have and how are they wired to the speakers?

Or another option is connect your 4x12 cab to one speaker output on the Mustang 5, and the 1x12 cab to the other output. OK, so that isn't an equal balance for left and right channels, but it's the best option with the kit you've got, without rewiring the internals of anything.

If you already have a Mustang Floor, what are you currently using as power amp / speakers for that?

Thanks, the 1x12 is an iso cab I use for recording. The 4x12 is for playing out and is a 400Watt peavey that can run 8 stereo or 16 mono.

So I guess the answer is no I can't run the iso by iteself.

I'm running the floor into the FX return of a peavey jsx. This works great, BUT I have to run it at a lower volume so the JSX does not saturate or add coloration. It is redundant with some of the Mustang controls that add saturation. If I want a really dry sound, I need to turn the sag, bias, and master volume down on the FMF, and run the patch volume on 10. Then I can't put the jsx power over about "2" or it will start to saturate and color things.

I think a solid state amp will work better, and figured look into getting the V, but then I can't run it with my iso. I like the cabinet sims, but I think the models sound best when played through a real amp/speaker/mic.

Great, so you can use that directly with the Mustang V head.

You can, with the caveats I mentioned above (only one channel, possible risks of running a power amp with no load). Maybe the simplest answer is to buy a second 1x12 cab?

Having only one channel isn't an issue if you only use mono effects. If you're using stereo effects, then by definition you'd need the second cab anyway (otherwise what's the point of using a stereo effect?). You'd have to ask Fender directly whether running the amp with no load on one channel is a risk.

Another option would be to use the line-out (XLR or fx-send or headphone socket) on the Mustang V to drive a powered monitor (if you only want one speaker), don't connect any speakers directly to the M-V's speaker outputs, and turn the M-V's master volume to zero to avoid driving the power amps. This may be appropriate if you're using it mainly for recording etc.
