I have a Mustang III. Is the best way to find the best or forte user presets to just go to Mustang presets and click on Popularity or Rating and download the top 10 or is there another website/blog that I don't know of. I did a Search and there doesn't seem to be an ongoing thread to go to.

Thanks.

I've also started just downloading all (well, many) of the Popular and top Rated presets and just play to them one by one. I've only found a couple I like, so far. I'll check out your link and intheblues.

Yes, it would improve things a lot if more people would not only rate but leave comments on the presets.

I personally don't download many but, I do have a bookmark set up so that I can check for the newest presets (sort by date) which I do just for shiz&giggles occasionally.

What I have come to notice, and forgive me for being a cynical/grumpy old man here (GET OFF MY LAWN!), is that many times I see a new preset uploaded that immediately gets a 4+ star rating, often by the same authors... could it be that these authors are rating their own presets?

OK, I have no faith in humanity to do the right thing when no one is looking, but if this is the case these egotistical so and soes are screwing the whole rating system and making it more difficult for everyone to use the database in a pathetic attempt to get noticed in the sea of authors. I won't name any names - you know who you are...

I suggest that you search by rating but pay close attention to the number of people who have rated it. IMO, even a preset with a 3+ star rating that has a good number of people rating it would be worth a look more than a preset with a 4+ star rating given by one person.

Because of this situation, you can't really go by the number of downloads.

Fender:

I think it would help if the database software took the handle (log-on name of the person(s) rating a preset and displayed them on the preset's page. Yeah, the database's software programmers would have to write more code and then test it for bugs - which would be time consuming and an expense but if there are improvements planned anyway, it would be nice to add that to the list.

I dont bother downloading any preset that has no description. I'm sure I've probably missed some good ones but its helpful to have a description of what the user was going for to help see what it might soundlike since sound samples are a nay.

and comments and ratings are extremely useful to see what other users have to say about them good or bad.

Ya, I don't think you should even be allowed to rate your own preset. That's just as bad as businesses on Yelp leaving glowing comments about how good their own business is. That's just deceitful. If you've got a good product (preset) it will 'sell' itself.

captainc is right about "intheblues" presets. They are very well researched.

good answers. Brought to mind that "popular" does often not equal "good". Look at state of most popular music these days.... don't forget also that the guitar and any additional mods before it hits the amp does tend to color the result somewhat.

I have several "go to" presets that I depend upon. None of them are presets that came with the amplifier. There are three presets from InTheBlues I use commonly although I have modified them a bit to suit my taste and playing style. They are the delayed 65 Princeton (for jazz), the blues deluxe (for blues), and the ec-twinolux which I'm just starting to use on some stuff. Other presets I use that started off as downloads but have been modified to taste are a Joe Walsh preset (based on the Fender Champ), a Who preset (based on the Vox), and a Queen preset (based on a Vox). My most used presets are ones I created from scratch. One to emulate the Aerosmith sound which is based on the Hi-Watt, and one for an acoustic guitar which I built based on the studio preamp preset.

I'm not new to amp modeling as I previously owned a modeling amp before the Mustand and have used amp modeling extensively in recording. I think you can save yourself a few steps occasionally by downloading presets from Fuse if they're well researched like those from intheblues. But you're probably going to have to do a bit of tweaking even on them. In most cases I just start off with the appropriate amp and model to taste to get the sound I'm looking for.
