Hi all.
Newbie here please help. Hooked my Yamaha pacifica through my Fender Mustang 2 and hooked up to the laptop. Logged in to my Fuse account and opened the tuner application in Fuse. I couldn't get the guitar in tune and the tuner didn't seem to be very responsive. Any tips please guys.
Many thanks
Rich

I'd just buy a cheap tuner that clamps right to the headstock of your guitar. That way it will always be available while your playing.

First: forget using FUSE for the time being. Does the on-amp tuner work correctly? (if you don't know how to use the on-amp tuner, it's described in your amp's Advanced Manual). If you can't get things working with the on-amp tuner, then the tuner in FUSE won't work either, so let's fix things on the amp first.

Is your guitar volume turned up enough for the tuner to be able to recognise the pitch of each string?

Are you sure you're only plucking one string at a time, and there are no other sounds or vibrations that could be being transmitted to the amp? Try physically damping (with palm of hand, other fingers, etc) all the strings except the one you're trying to tune, see if that makes a difference.

Also, where are you plucking the string? Too near the bridge and the note will have many overtones that may confuse a tuner. I always pluck over the twelfth fret (ie mid-point of the string) to obtain the 'purest' fundamental frequency for tuning. Also for tuning I pluck with the fleshy part of my thumb (rather than thumbnail or a plectrum), again to minimise overtones etc.

Once you have everything working with the on-amp tuner, connect to FUSE again and try its tuner. Does it behave the same way as the on-amp tuner, or does it show anything different? What exactly do you mean by "didn't seem to be very responsive" ?

Thanks for the info both of you. I can see where I went wrong. My guitar was so out of tune I couldn't get it back with the digital tuner on the fuse software. I used the tuner on the amp as suggested and all is well now thanks. Really appreciate your help and advice. Best regards.
